Advancing Rule of Law in a Global Context
The papers published in this proceedings volume are written by a selection of authors, resulting from a call for papers for the 1st International Conference on Law and Governance in a Global Context (ICLAVE) originating from Indonesia and other countries. This proceedings volume shall be a very valuable contribution to understand contemporary law issues in Indonesia which are not always taught in law schools. These proceedings will not only serve as a useful reference for law students and academicians, but also help law practitioners to understand law issues that may be encountered in Indonesia. We proudly present the proceedings of 1st International Workshop on Law, Economic and Governance 2022 (IWLEG 2022). It focuses on how the wave of digitalization of government transformation, especially in Law and Democracy, Law and Indigenous People, Law in Contemporary Issues, Law and Economics, Digital Economics, Good Governance etc. As we know, the world today is changing and the world we are facing now is the one where everything is connected. The contemporary social issues based on complex problems, complex interest, beyond borders and powers. More than 74 manuscripts from various countries were presented at this conference with around 39 of them selected to be published in proceedings. We hope by this workshop, discussions on how research on Law, Economic and Government is possible in a disruptive era will give a perspective for the social and humanities studies development.
SELECTED CONTEMPORARY ISSUES ON LAW, SOCIAL, AND POLITICS
This book once again shows the results of the ongoing collaboration between UniZSA, Malaysia and UNAIR, Indonesia, especially those involving Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UNAIR and Faculty of Law and International Relations of UniZSA, each of which is led by the Department of International Relations. Furthermore, this book is also a reminder that scientific work can be disseminated in various forms other than on the mainstream platform. In addition, this book is an alternative source of learning for lecturers, students, and the public. For the higher education, this book can be a medium to strengthen academic networks and a means of communication for its authors.
Refugee Protection in Southeast Asia
Despite being long-term hosts to refugee populations, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia are not yet part of the 1951 Refugee Convention. In all three states, refugees are regulated as discretionary humanitarian exceptions to immigration legislation. With contributions from scholars within and outside the region, this book promotes new thinking on protection of refugees and on resolving tensions between states, actors and institutions in the region. It evaluates the key concepts of sovereignty, security and humanitarianism in this context, the different bases of protection by state and non-state actors and the meaning of responsibility and regionalism in Southeast Asia.

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed our activities, like teaching, researching, and socializing. We are confused because we haven’t experienced before. However, as Earth's smartest inhabitants, we can adapt new ways to survive the pandemic without losing enthusiasm. Therefore, even in pandemic conditions, we can still have scientific discussions, even virtually. The main theme of this symposium is "Reinforcement of the Sustainable Development Goals Post Pandemic" as a part of the masterplan of United Nations for sustainable development goals in 2030. This symposium is attended by 348 presenters from Indonesia, Malaysia, UK, Scotland, Thailand, Taiwan, Tanzania and Timor Leste which published 202 papers. Furthermore, we are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the 2nd Borobudur Symposium Borobudur on Humanities and Social Sciences 2020 (2nd BIS-HSS 2020). We hope our later discussion may result transfer of experiences and research findings from participants to others and from keynote speakers to participants.
