Nanophytomedicine is a branch of medicine that involves the application of nanomedicine-based systems to phytotherapy and phytopharmacology and the use of phytonanoparticles for biomedical applications. Nanophytomedicine covers recent advances in experimental and theoretical studies on various properties of nanoparticles derived from plant sources. This book assesses the recent advancements and applications of plant-based nanoparticles and also highlights emerging concepts of biomimetics. The book contains 24 chapters encompassing various therapeutic applications of phytochemicals derived from plants, ferns, seaweeds, and so on, mediated through nanotechnology and its allied approaches. A fervent attempt has been made to compile every significant advancement in the field of phytonanomedicine so as to accelerate its momentum in the pharmaceutical sector.
“Antioxidant Activity of Polyphenolic Plant Extracts” is a collection of scientific articles regarding polyphenols, that is, substances occurring naturally in plants and exhibiting many beneficial effects on human health. Among polyphenols’ interesting biological properties, their antioxidant activity is considered the most important. This book brings together experts from different research fields on topics related to polyphenols, such as their isolation and purification, assessment of their antioxidant activity, prevention from oxidative stress-induced diseases and use as food additives. The polyphenols used in the present studies are derived from a great variety of plants, ranging f...
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic diseases that include most ageing-related diseases, representing the main cause of death and disability in the general population. Inflammation and oxidative stress are common features in NCDs, responsible for the cell, tissue, and organ damage that contributes to the progression of these diseases. They may be also key targets for the development of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies. This Special Issue includes 14 peer-reviewed papers, including 12 original research papers and 2 reviews. Together, they represent the most recent progress in the field of several degenerative disorders, aiming to establish specific biomarkers, detailing the pathogenesis and the evolution of these diseases, making a correct diagnosis, and opening up new therapeutic strategies. Of relevance, many studies report the beneficial effects of natural compounds, derived from several plants, leaves, and fruits; their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties suggest their use as a dietary supplement for prevention and/or complement to standard therapies.
This book gives a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the valorization of agri-food waste and discusses the main process conditions needed to overcome the difficulties of using waste as alternative raw materials. It also discusses specific methodologies, opportunistic microbes for biomass valorization, the sustainable production of agri-food waste, as well as examines the assessment and management of bioactive molecules production from microbial-valorization of agri-food waste. The authors provide technical concepts on the production of various bio-products and their commercial interest including agri-food waste utilization in the microbial synthesis of proteins, the valorization of...
