Essays in english language teaching includes a selection of articles which are based on edited and peer-reviewed papers delivered at the "I Simposio de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje del Inglés: el método comunicativo en el año 2000" held at the University of Oviedo from 19 to 21 November, 1998, together with two plenary keynote lectures: Carme Muñoz's (University of Barcelona): "The effects of age on instructed foreign language acquisition"; and Ignacio Palacios' (University of Santiago de Compostela): "What's there to know about the learning of a foreign language?". No summary is provided as we hope they should be compulsory/compulsive reading.
Language Use and Linguistic Structure. Proceedings of the Olomouc Linguistics Colloquium 2021
The latest volume of OLINCO proceedings is a selected set of papers that grew from presentations at OLINCO 2021 - the international Olomouc Linguistics Colloquium held at Palacky University in June 2021. The nineteen papers collected here are unified by the topic of the colloquium: Language Use and Linguistic Structure, in that they all, in one way or the other, address the central questions of the study of human language. They all use standard scientific methodology and theory and solidly researched empirical evidence in favor of formalized structural representations of the language system.
Corpus linguistics on the move
Honoured with the 2017 AESLA Research Award of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics. Corpus linguistics on the move: Exploring and understanding English through corpora comprises fourteen contributions by leading scholars in the field of English corpus linguistics, covering areas of central concern in corpus research and corpus methodology. Subordination in English
This book provides a collection of articles on subordination in English framed from both a synchronic and a diachronic perspective. It covers ample areas of the history of the major subordinated structures of English and their recent development in various native and non-native varieties. Most contributions are based on large electronic databases and corpora of written and spoken texts. The book focuses on the continuum that links subordinated and coordinated structures in a fluid way, shows their permanent state of flux, and sheds light on the whole system's dynamic essence by discussing a large number of explanatory principles at work in shaping it. Many of these are well-known from the grammaticalization and the Construction Grammar theories, such as the concepts of attractor, multi-sourcing, inheritance, categorial incursion, metaphorization or exaptation. Studies on Multilingual Lexicography
Given the new technological advances and their influence and imprint in the design and development of dictionaries and lexicographic resources, it seems important to put together a series of publications that address this new situation, dealing in particular with multilingual and electronic lexicography in an increasingly digital, multilingual and multicultural society. This is the main objective of this volume, which is structured in two central aspects. In the first of them the concept of multilingual lexicography is discussed in regard to the influence that the Internet and the application of digital technologies have exercised and continue to exercise both in the conception and design of dictionaries and new lexicographic application tools as well as the emergence of new types of users and forms of consultation. The role of the dictionary must necessarily be related to social development and changes. In the second thematic section, different dictionaries and resources that focus on a multilingual and electronic approach to the linguistic data for their lexicographical treatment and consultation are presented.
