Inscrita en el marco de la historia social de la literatura, esta investigación contextualiza la obra literaria del escritor bogotano Jorge Zalamea en su trayectoria vital (1905-1969). Parte de la premisa de que texto y autor constituyen una unidad inseparable, por lo que el ciclo vital del literato puede aportar a la comprensión de su producción intelectual. Puntualiza las posturas del personaje estudiado frente a tópicos como la función social del escritor y la profesionalización del oficio, su lugar dentro de un tejido de relaciones y contextos, sus vinculaciones con instituciones sociales y literarias, su percepción sobre la responsabilidad intelectual, y su integración a círculos de pensamiento y poder influyentes sobre la configuración de la sociedad de su tiempo. Relaciona entonces –desde una perspectiva sociológica– la situación de un escritor específico con estructuras, clases o grupos sociales, en aras de la formulación de explicaciones y análisis.
