The present collection echoes and contributes to a number of the issues defined by both the traditional and revisionist historiography. The intent of this special issue of the Portuguese Studies Review was to highlight some of the new research on late medieval and early modern Portuguese women, subjects typically situated outside of the academic mainstream, and to complement the four major collections on the history of Portuguese women published since 1986, as well as the larger literature dealing with Spain. No dia 28 de abril de 1933, Ernst Rochol deixava a Alemanha e imigrava, com um primo, para o Brasil. Seu destino era Porto Novo, onde chegou no dia 26 de maio do mesmo ano. Estava com 30 anos, no auge de sua existência. Ninguém imaginava, muito menos ele, que este seria só um dos tantos capítulos de sua movimentada vida. Para comemorar esse feito, estamos lançando "Parada Portos – A História de Ernst e Maria". Trata-se de uma coletânea de cartas, relatos, fotos e comentários que contam, de forma quase íntima, a história de Ernst e de sua família no período de 1933 a 1974. A base da crônica são cartas escritas com espontaneidade, amor e dedicação. Todas percorreram longas e demoradas distâncias, sempre cortando o Atlântico. Uma delas estava num avião que caiu no trajeto do Rio de Janeiro a Natal. Apesar disso, chegou ao seu destino e enriquece a coletânea.
