Integrated Time-Based Signal Processing Circuits for Harsh Radiation Environments

This book covers the most recent, advanced methods for designing mixed-signal integrated circuits, for radiation-hardened sensor readouts (capacitive) and frequency synthesizers (quadrature, digitally controlled oscillators and all-digital PLL etc.). The authors discuss the ionizing radiation sources, complex failure mechanisms as well as several mitigation strategies for avoiding such failures. Readers will benefit from an introduction to the essential theory and fundamentals of ionizing radiation and time-based signal processing, with the details of the implementation of several radiation-hardened IC prototypes. The radiation-hardening methods and solutions described are supported by theory and experimental data with, underlying tradeoffs. Discusses the basics of time-based signal processing and its effectiveness in mitigating ionizing radiation Provides mitigation strategies and recommendations for reducing radiation induced effects in Integrated Circuits Includes coverage of devices used in measuring radiation, focusing on semiconductor-based radiation sensors

The incessant scaling of complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology has resulted in significant performance improvements in very-large-scale integration (VLSI) design techniques and system architectures. This trend is expected to continue in the future, but this requires breakthroughs in the design of nano-CMOS and post-CMOS technologies. Nanoelectronics refers to the possible future technologies beyond conventional CMOS scaling limits. This volume addresses the current state-of-the-art nanoelectronic technologies and presents potential options for next-generation integrated circuits. Nanoelectronics for Next-generation Integrated Circuits is a useful reference guide for researchers, engineers, and advanced students working on the frontier of the design and modeling of nanoelectronic devices and their integration aspects with future CMOS circuits. This comprehensive volume eloquently presents the design methodologies for spintronics memories, quantum-dot cellular automata, and post-CMOS FETs, including applications in emerging integrated circuit technologies.

The 7th International Symposium on the Characterization of Porous Solids (COPS-VII) was held in the Congress Centre in Aix-en-Provence between the 25th-28th May 2005. The symposium covered recent results of fundamental and applied research on the characterization of porous solids. Papers relating to characterization methods such as gas adsorption and liquid porosimetry, X-ray techniques and microscopic measurements as well as the corresponding molecular modelling methods were given. These characterization methods were shown to be applied to all types of porous solids such as clays, carbons, ordered mesoporous materials, porous glasses, oxides, zeolites and metal organic frameworks. * 36 oral presentations and 166 posters and around 230 guests from 27 countries. * A large part of this symposium was devoted to the use computational methods to characterise porous solids

Nitric Oxide (NO) and Cancer

Nitric Oxide (NO) is a pleitropic, ubiquitous modulator of cellular functions. Aryl nitrite and glyceryl trinitrate, representative intravasadilators, were introduced as therapeutic agents more than a century ago for relief from acute attacks of angina. The vasodilator action is mediated by the release of NO following treatment. NO has important therapeutic applications in several diseases such as inflammatory diseases, erectile dysfunction, inflammation, pain and neural protective activity. However, the role of NO in cancer and its application in therapy has received little attention. This monograph will be the first to focus on studies that investigate the role of NO in tumor cell pathogenesis, growth, angiogenesis, response to cytotoxic therapies and NO translational applications in cancer therapy, alone or in conjunction with other therapies.

The spectrum of available treatment options for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is matched by the spectrum of disease severity, and with up to 90% of men in their 80s suffering from BPH to some extent, it is imperative that patients are offered the full range of options to manage the disease. Pharmacologic therapies available for the treatment o

Completely revised and updated, Textbook of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, Second Edition provides a state-of-the-art overview of the entire field. The first edition of this breakthrough book was very well received by urologists around the world and became the standard reference work on the subject of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). With the constant changes and improvements being made in therapeutics and treatment in general, any book on this important subject needs to be updated frequently. The first edition's original sections have been expanded and, once again, a team of expert editors and contributors ensure that the material presented reflects the latest available information. The editorial panel examines all aspects of the disorder, from pathophysiology to the latest treatments and clinical trials including MTOPS and PREDICT. They explore laser prostatectomy using the holmium laser and a host of other minimally invasive techniques that are seriously challenging standard transurethral resection (TUR) as the gold standard intervention for this disease. Building on the foundation of the first edition, this second edition will continue to be the quintessential resource on BPH.
