On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to welcome you to the proccedings of the 23rd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2004). This conference provided an international forum for technical discussion on conceptual modeling of information systems among researchers, developers and users. This was the third time that this conference was held in Asia; the?rst time was in Singapore in 1998 and the second time was in Yokohama, Japan in 2001. China is the third largest nation with the largest population in the world. Shanghai, the largest city in China and a great metropolis, famous in Asia and throughout the world, is therefore a most appropriate location to host thi...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 40th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2021, which will be held as virtual event, in October 2021. The 14 full and 18 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 85 submissions. The conference presents topics on conceptual modeling, its foundations and applications. Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the overall theme of ER 2021 is: Conceptual Modeling in an Age of Uncertainty.

Since the early 1980's, the IFIP WG8.1 conferences have provided a forum for the presentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences in the field of Information System Engineering. The WG8.1 '02 Conference is held in the beautiful Kanazawa area in North western Japan. The ubiquitous Web has revolutionised the way organisations communicate and work internally as well as externally and, consequently, the nature of information systems supporting business activities. Web-based systems have become the state of the art in information systems engineering in a very short time. As companies become more international in their strategies and activities, information systems themselve...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CaiSE 2003, held in Klagenfurt, Austria in June 2003. The 45 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited contributions were carefully reviewed and selected from 219 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on XML, methods and models for information systems, UML, Internet business and social modeling, peer-to-peer systems, ontology-based methods, advanced design of information systems, knowledge, knowledge management, Web services, data warehouses, electronic agreements and workflow, requirements engineering, metrics and method engineering, and agent technologies and advanced environments.
Over the last decade, Method Engineering, defined as the engineering discipline to design, construct and adapt methods, including supportive tools, has emerged as the research and application area for using methods for systems development. This book contains the papers from the IFIP Working Group 8.1 conference on Situational Method Engineering.
If numeric data from the Web are brought together, natural scientists can compare climate measurements with estimations, financial analysts can evaluate companies based on balance sheets and daily stock market values, and citizens can explore the GDP per capita from several data sources. However, heterogeneities and size of data remain a problem. This work presents methods to query a uniform view - the Global Cube - of available datasets from the Web and builds on Linked Data query approaches.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of seven workshops and a symposium, held at the 35th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2016, in Gifu, Japan. The 19 revised full and 3 keynote papers were carefully reviewed and selected out of 52 submissions to the following events: Conceptual Modeling for Ambient Assistance and Healthy Ageing, AHA 2016; Modeling and Management of Big Data, MoBiD 2016; Modeling and Reasoning for Business Intelligence, MORE-BI 2016; Conceptual Modeling in Requirements and Business Analysis, MREBA 2016; Quality of Models and Models of Quality, QMMQ 2016; and the Symposium on Conceptual Modeling Education, SCME 2016; and Models and Modeling on Security and Privacy, WM2SP 2016.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2000, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA in October 2000. The 37 revised full papers presented together with three invited papers and eight industrial abstracts were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 140 submitted papers. The book offers topical sections on database integration, temporal and active database modeling, database and data warehouse design techniques, analysis patterns and ontologies, Web-based information systems, business process modeling, conceptual modeling and XML, engineering and multimedia application modeling, object-oriented modeling, applying object-oriented technology, quality in conceptual modeling, and application design using UML.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 42nd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2023, held in Lisbon, Portugal, during November 6-9, 2023. The 21 full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 121 submissions. Additionally, the book contains 4 keynote speeches and 3 tutorials, and one invited paper corresponding to one of the keynote speeches. The papers cover a broad spectrum of classical and modern topics on conceptual modeling, including research and practice in the theories of concepts and ontologies, techniques for transforming conceptual models into effective implementations, and methods and tools for developing and communicating conceptual models.
