La publication des vestiges de l'actuelle région de la Franche-Comté se termine avec ce volume consacré au département du Doubs et au Territoire de Belfort, tout deux rattachés dans l’Antiquité au peuple séquane. Les deux pôles essentiels de l’organisation économique et territoriale des Séquanes correspondent à deux agglomérations gauloises puis gallo-romaines situées dans la vallée du Doubs : le sanctuaire de Mandeure et surtout l’oppidum puis la ville de Besançon dont le développement économique date de la phase finale du deuxième âge du Fer. Outre le classique pré-inventaire des vestiges classés par communes, on trouvera des synthèses concernant la géologie et la géographie, l’histoire de la recherche, les premier puis deuxième âge du Fer, les voies, l’habitat, l’occupation du sol, l’artisanat, la religion et les rites funéraires romains.

This massive three volume set publishes the proceedings of the 2006 Limes conference which was held in Leon, a total of 138 contributions. Naturally these cover a vast range of topics related to Roman military archaeology and the Roman frontiers. The archaeology of the Roman military in Spain, and contributions by Spanish scholars are prominent, whilst other themes include the internal frontiers, the end of the frontiers and the barbarians in the empire, the fortified town in the late Roman period, soldiers on the move and the early development of frontiers . The European Countryside during the Migration Period
Research on late antique and early medieval migrations has long acknowledged the importance of interdisciplinarity. The field is constantly nourished by new archaeological discoveries that allow for increasingly refined pictures of socio-economic development. Yet the perspectives adopted by historians and archaeologists are frequently different, and so are their conclusions. Diverging views exist in respect to varying geographical areas and scholarly traditions too. This volume brings together history and archaeology to address the impact of the inflow and outflow of migrations on the rural landscape, the creation of new settlement patterns, and the role of migrations and mobility in transforming society and economy. Such themes are often investigated under a regional or macro-regional viewpoint, resulting in too fragmented an understanding of a widespread phenomenon. Spanning Eastern and Western Europe, the book takes steps toward an integrated picture of territories normally investigated as separate entities, and critically establishes grounds for new comparisons and models on late antique and early medieval transformations.
