This book explores visual political engagement online – how citizens participate in the dynamism of life in society by expressing their opinions and emotions on various issues of democratic life in image-based social media posts, independently of collective actions. Looking beyond large digital social movements to focus on the everyday, the book provides a well-documented and comprehensive framework of key notions, concrete methods and examples of empirical insights into everyday visual citizenship on social media. It shows how the visual has become ubiquitous in citizens’ communication on social media, focusing on how citizens use visual content to express their emotions and opinions on social media platforms when they discuss politics in a large sense. With this book, every reader interested in political communication, visual communication and/or new media is fully equipped to analyse everyday visual citizenship on social media platforms. In this book, Anna Faust examines the effects of gamification as a non-monetary incentive scheme on motivation and performance. A primary concern of managerial accounting are systems and practices that increase motivation, effort, and performance. However, in the field of management accounting and management control, previous research has focused on the effects of monetary incentives at the expense of non-monetary incentives. Gamification, as a non-monetary incentive scheme, has received little to no attention so far in the field of management accounting and management control. To address this gap, the author conducts three studies to investigate the influence of gamification on motivation and performance. Overall, this book offers new insights into the complexity of gamification as an incentive scheme.
Social media influencer marketing emerged in Web 2.0 as a new form of celebrity endorsement in which the Internet-famous create word-of-mouth marketing for brands and organizations on their personal social media pages, blurring the line between organic and sponsored content for their followers. This book explores social media influencer marketing through the lens of philosophy of communication with a praxis-centered approach. Kati E. Sudnick utilizes a multitude of theoretical touchstones—including Christopher Lasch’s narcissistic culture, Marshall McLuhan’s global village, Daniel Boorstin’s human pseudo-event, Jacques Ellul’s propaganda, and the interplay between charismatic leade...
