Gain insight into the mechanical properties and performance of engineering ceramics and composites. This collection of articles illustrates the Mechanical Behavior and Performance of Ceramics & Composites symposium, which included over 100 presentations representing 10 countries. The symposium addressed the cutting-edge topics on mechanical properties and reliability of ceramics and composites and their correlations to processing, microstructure, and environmental effects.
The 1985 joint Cryogenic Engineering/International Cryogenic Materi als Conference was held on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts. About 350 papers were presented at the joint conference on a wide variety of topics in cryogenic science and engineering. This volume of Advances in cryogenic Eogineerlng, the thirty-first in the series which began in 1954, contains most of the papers which were presented at the 1985 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. Each paper was rigorously peer reviewed to maintain the international reputation of Advances as the premier archival publication in the field of cryoscience, engineering, and technology. All the papers p...
The Twenty-Four Histories (Chinese: δΊεεε²) are the Chinese official historical books covering a period from 3000 BC to the Ming dynasty in the 17th century. The Han dynasty official Sima Qian established many of the conventions of the genre. Starting with the Tang dynasty, each dynasty established an official office to write the history of its predecessor using official court records. As fixed and edited in the Qing dynasty, the whole set contains 3213 volumes and about 40 million words. It is considered one of the most important sources on Chinese history and culture. The title "Twenty-Four Histories" dates from 1775 which was the 40th year in the reign of the Qianlong Emperor. This ...
This volume of the Ceramic Transactions series compiles a number of papers presented at the 9th International Conference on Ceramic Materials and Components for Energy and Environmental Applications (9th CMCEE) in Shanghai, China and was the continuation of a series of international conferences held all over the world over the last three decades. This volume contains selected peer reviewed papers from more than 300 presentations from all over the world. The papers in this volume also highlight and emphasize the importance of synergy between advanced materials and component designs.
This volume focuses on recent scientific and technological developments in silicon-based (i.e., silicon nitride, SiAlONs, silicon carbide, silicon oxynitride) structural ceramics. Authors from academia and industry assess the current state of the art in slilicon-based structual ceramics. Industrial case studies are advocated to highlight the development and application of these materials in real engineering environments. Proceedings of the symposium held at the 104th Annual Meeting of The American Ceramic Society, April 28-May1, 2002 in Missouri; Ceramic Transactions, Volume 142.
An increasing number of studies suggest that the abnormality of substance and energy metabolism of tumor cells is among the unsolved complex pathological mechanism problems in malignant tumor. The abnormal metabolism of substance and energy in tumor cells is not only the cause of occurrence and development of malignant tumors, but also the concrete embodiment of their pathological changes. Substance and energy metabolism of tumor cells largely depends on neuroendocrine regulation, so it is of great scientific and clinical significance to analyze its regulatory mechanism. The imbalance of material and energy metabolism of tumor cells is one of the major causes for the occurrence and development of tumors, often regulated by neuroendocrine system. Therefore, neuroendocrine regulation plays an important role in tumorigenesis and development. For example, endocrine diseases such as diabetes and obesity are directly related to the occurrence and development of tumors.
This book contains technical papers, presented at the third joint Canada-Japan workshop on Composites held in Japan in 2000, on topics, including smart composites, composites in civil construction, toughened composites, textile composites, braided composites, and thermoplastic composites.
This volume provides a one-stop resource, compiling current research on bioceramics and porous ceramics. It is a collection of papers from The American Ceramic Society s 32nd International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, January 27-February 1, 2008. It includes papers from two symposia: "Porous Ceramics: Novel Developments and Applications" and "Next Generation Bioceramics." Articles are logically organized to provide insight into various aspects of bioceramics and porous ceramics. This is a valuable, up-to-date resource for researchers working in ceramics engineering.
