Superconductors

The book includes 17 chapters written by noted scientists and young researchers and dealing with various aspects of superconductivity, both theoretical and experimental. The authors tried to demonstrate their original vision and give an insight into the examined problems. A balance between theory and experiment was preserved at least from the formal viewpoint (9 and 8, respectively). The readers should be warned that many of the problems studied here are far from being solved and are treated on the basis of competing viewpoints. The reason is that such is the state of the art! Science of superconductivity develops rapidly and new unexpected discoveries are expected in the nearest future.

Based on the latest progress in superconductivity research, the authors form a conventional theory of superconductivity and express BCS paring theory at a higher level. They especially emphasis the importance of the long-range phase coherence for the superconductivity. They also point out some misunderstandings of basic concepts about superconductivity in present textbooks and monographs. They illustrate the correct theory of the high-Tc superconductivity and the application of the high-Tc superconductors to establish a correct and detailed theory regarding this mechanism in different systems.

High Temperature Superconductors

This essential reference provides the most comprehensive presentation of state-of-the-art research being conducting worldwide today in this growing field of research and applications. HTS are currently being supported by numerous governmental and industrial initiatives in the USA and Asia and Europe to overcome energy distribution issues and are now being commercialised for power-delivery devices, such as power transmission lines and cables, motors, and generators. Applications in electric utilities include energy-storing devices to help industries avoid dips in electric power, current limiters, and long transmission lines. The technology is particularly thought out for highly-populated and densed areas. Both editors are leading experts in the field from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This book can be used as a companion teaching tool, and also as as a research and professional reference.

Superconductors are materials that conduct electricity with no resistance. This means that, unlike the more familiar conductors such as copper or steel, a superconductor can carry a current indefinitely without losing any energy. They also have several other very important properties, such as the fact that no magnetic field can exist within a superconductor. Superconductors already have drastically changed the world of medicine with the advent of MRI machines, which have meant a reduction in exploratory surgery. Power utilities, electronics companies, the military, transportation, and theoretical physics have all benefited strongly from the discovery of these materials. Superconductors - Mat...
