Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health III

Numa época em que o tratamento de informações relativas a pessoas singulares identificadas ou identificáveis se reveste de potencialidades e riscos sem qualquer tipo de precedentes, a presente obra pretende contribuir para a compreensão das principais traves-mestras do novo modelo de proteção de dados pessoais europeu, instituído na sequência da entrada em vigor do Regulamento (UE) 2016/679 do Parlamento Europeu e do Conselho, de 27 de abril de 2016, relativo à proteção das pessoas singulares no que diz respeito ao tratamento de dados pessoais e à livre circulação desses dados. O trabalho que ora se apresenta, resulta do afloramento da dissertação apresentada pelo autor, tendo em vista a obtenção do grau de Mestre em Direito, na área de especialização em Ciências Jurídico-Administrativas, pela Faculdade de Direito da Universidade do Porto.

This volume gathers a selection of original articles and reviews on timely topics about the application of Taurine in human health written by members of the International Taurine Society, including COVID-19, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, among others. Chapters are written by Taurine experts across the globe in North and South America, Asia, and Europe. A majority of the articles are based on original studies recently carried out in individual laboratories worldwide. The book is divided into eight parts, each covering a unique aspect of Taurine. Each section will highlight new research findings on Taurine and its application in various human systems, including the nervous system, immune system, and cardiovascular system, to combat disease. The first section covers COVID-19, the dominant health event of 2020. Experts will explore and clarify the potential therapeutic effectiveness of Taurine against COVID-19. Given the success of the previous collection Pharmacological and Non-Pharmacological Therapy for Obesity and Diabetes, we are pleased to announce the launch of Volume II. Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may induce inflammation and impair health, leading to metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Their prevalence is increasing and is considered a major public health concern in the 21st century. While numerous mechanisms have been proposed for this epidemic of obesity, it is well agreed upon that lack of physical activity and high calorie intake plays causal roles. Understanding the causes that lead to obesity and also its prevention or reversion are of public health priority. This could be managed by either modification of lifestyle (through physical activity to restore energy balance or reduction of calorie intake, proper diet that is rich in fiber, increasing energy outlay) or using adequate medication.
