Legal Literacy in Premodern European Societies
This book analyses the legal literacy, knowledge and skills of people in premodern and modernizing Europe. It examines how laymen belonging both to the common people and the elite acquired legal knowledge and skills, how they used these in advocacy and legal writing and how legal literacy became an avenue for social mobility. Taking a comparative approach, contributors consider the historical contexts of England, Finland, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden. This book is divided into two main parts. The first part discusses various groups of legal literates (scriveners, court of appeal judges and advocates) and their different paths to legal literacy from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century. The second part analyses the rise of the ownership and production of legal literature – especially legal books meant for laymen – as means for acquiring a degree of legal literacy from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century.

Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic Modeling and Simulation
A natural hierarchy exists in pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling culminating in population pharmacokinetic models, which are a specific type of nonlinear mixed effects model. The purpose of this book is to present through theory and example how to develop pharmacokinetic models, both at an individual and population level. In order to do so, however, one must first understand linear models and then build to nonlinear models followed by linear mixed effects models and then ultimately nonlinear mixed effects models. This book develops in that manner – each chapter builds upon previous chapters by first presenting the theory and then illustrating the theory using published data sets and actual data sets that were used in the development of new chemical entities collected by the author during his years in industry. A key feature of the book is the process of modeling. Most books and manuscripts often present the final model never showing how the model evolved. Previously available only in an out-of-print Swedish edition published in 1955, Henry Bengston's firsthand account deals with what historian Dag Blanck calls the "other Swedish America." Swedish immigrants in general were conservative, but Bengston and others--most notably Joe Hill--joined the working-class labor movement on the left, primarily as Debsian socialists, although their ranks included other socialists, communists, and anarchists. Involved in the radical labor movement on many fronts, Bengston was the editor of Svenska Socialisten from 1912 until he dropped out of the Scandinavian Socialist Federation in 1920. Even after 1920, however, his sympathies remained with the movement he had once strongly espoused.
