Fathers and Brothers and Sons
In failing health, widowed patriarch, Joe Bickham looks forward to opening his family’s summer cottage and spending the Memorial Day weekend catching-up with his sons, Michael and Gabriel, and their broods. Over his breakfast the morning of departure, his reverie is interrupted by the crashing of a massive roiling storm. Regardless, he thinks how everyone will enjoy the cook-out dinners, lake fishing, holiday fireworks, and the traditional croquet tournament. Jacob Miller of 1748
Jacob Miller was born in 1748. It is not certain where he was born, Germany or America. He moved to the Valley of Virginia about 1782 from Maryland or Pennsylvania. He had eight children, five sons and three daughters. The name of his first wife is unknown. He married second, Frances Kagey, the widow of Rudolph Kagey. Jacob died 11 July 1815 and is buried in the Lydia Garber graveyard about three fourths of a mile south of Moores Store, Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and elsewhere.
