The Moving Finger Writes
: John Tomikel wrote poetry from the time he was in elementary school until his 50th birthday when he married Bonnie Henderson. For some reason he stopped writing poetry and concentrated on writing novels. Up to that time he had been published widely in poetry magazines and in environmental literature. His last poem which begins this volume was published in his book, "Spirituality Without Religion." Most of the poems were edited and published by the Mitre Press of London, England. Edible Wild Plants of Eastern United States and Canada
The first printing of this work sold out immediately and was never reprinted since Dr. Tomikel produced his comprehensive Edible Wild Plants and Useful Herbs. The charm of this work still has an appeal and so it is produced once again. This issue incorporates the pages of the first printing and has some photographs which were not in that printing. The hard cover version which accompanied the first printing can sometimes be found under "rare or antique" books. People of nature will be pleased to add this book to their collections.
Diary of a U. S. Soldier in Germany
The Diary of a U.S. Soldier in Germany by Cpl. John Tomikel is a historical document. It describes the life of a soldier in the occupation of West Germany and its relationship to East Europe controlled by the Soviet Union. The Korean War is in progress. The daily life of the soldier and the contacts with German civilians are noted. Halfway through his tour of duty, John is joined by his wife. They rent a room in the city of Wiesbaden and mingle with the natives. John is able to join his wife on most weekends and they enjoy the cultural offerings of the city as well as trips to different areas. This is an excellent documentary of the time and place as well as the life of a soldier. Two momentous events occurred during this time period, the death of Josef Stalin and the cease-fire in the Korean War. This is an interesting adventure as well as a historical document.
