The Story of El Jalapenio
This book is a detailed story of all my experiences, good and bad, and the adventures that I lived between 1985 and 1988, which was the longest period of time that I lived away from my family. At the same time, it is a detailed description on the struggles to get to the USA. This book is more of an example that doing things right and staying in school pays off.Also, I hope that migrant students or perhaps any student in middle school, high school and even in college learn that nothing beats going to school and getting a degree.

Electronic and Structural Properties of LaNiO3-Based Heterostructures
This thesis explores an amazing family of oxide compounds - the nickelates - known for their metal-to-insulator transition and, in the case of LaNiO3, to be a possible building block for designing a synthetic high Tc superconductor. Competition between various fascinating phases makes these materials very sensitive to external parameters and it is thus possible to dramatically tune their properties. This work on ultrathin LaNiO3 and the solid solution Nd1-xLaxNiO3 has important implications for the search for superconductivity in this class of materials.

Walter Kohn
This is not a science book, nor even a book about science, although most of the contributors are scientists. It is a book of personal stories about Walter Kohn, a theoretical physicist and winner of half of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Walter Kohn originated and/or refined a number of very important theoretical approaches and concepts in solid-state physics. He is known in particular for Density-Functional Theory. This book represents a kind of "oral history" about him, gathered - in anticipation of his 80th birthday - from former students, collaborators, fellow-scientists, and friends.
