Learning and Teaching in the Music Studio
This book advocates for a radical change in music teaching and learning methods, allowing for a break from the traditional conservatory model still in use in many classrooms. The product of twenty years of interdisciplinary work by musicians, music teachers, and psychologists, the book proposes to place the focus of music education on the students themselves and on their mental and physical activity, with the aim of helping them to manage their own goals and emotions. This alternative is based on a new theoretical framework, as well as numerous real, concrete examples of how to put it into practice with students of different ages and in different environments. Terranova
Terranova is the story of Spain s twentieth-century industrial cod fishery on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. It combines oral history (including interviews with over 300 participants in the fishery) with socio-political-economic history to describe how the industry and Spain itself evolved over seven decades. Terranova pays special attention to how work and life onboard trawlers changed in 1926, when Spain s industrial fishery began, and how they have evolved through the turn of the twenty-first century. It concludes by describing how technological advances and increased competition among fishers brought the collapse of the Newfoundland cod fishery in 1992.
The Cinema of Víctor Erice
To coincide with the recent DVD release of The Spirit of the Beehive, this paperback collection of essays focuses on the work of acclaimed Spanish director, Víctor Erice. Subversivos y malditos en la Universidad de Sevilla (1965-1977)
El movimiento estudiantil en las universidades españolas se convirtió en uno de los factores de mayor peso en la configuración de la oposición al régimen de Franco. Es más, muchos de los elementos que jugaron un papel de protagonismo en el proceso de transición que dió lugar a la Monarquía Democrática habían jugado sus primeras armas políticas desde las aulas universitarias en los años sesenta y setenta del pasado siglo. La particularidad de este estudio es que su autor ha conseguido acceder a una documentación hasta ahora inédita y cuya consulta ha presentado no pocas dificultades. Además, se ha entrevistado con muchos de los protagonistas de aquellos acontecimientos que le han proporcionado toda la información que la memoria de cada uno de ellos ha sido capaz de recomponer.
