Frente a las múltiples violencias sistémicas y sociales manifestadas de manera objetiva y subjetiva en la vida cotidiana del producto colonial denominado América Latina, se presentan diversas maneras de pensar y de actuar para la construcción de la paz, es decir que hay distintas formas teóricas y prácticas de convivir sobre la convivencia de los seres humanos. Una de las varias perspectivas es la propuesta de la “Paz Integral”, activa, noviolenta y duradera, es decir una paz sustentable, a partir de un re-enfoque que tenga como base, por un lado, el conocimiento de nuestras realidades latinoamericanas, y por otro, referentes hipotéticos de las teorías del pensamiento crítico latinoamericano en cualquiera de sus exposiciones.

Pensar la filosofía desde América Latina no ha sido en los últimos años una tarea coyuntural para posicionar movimientos filosóficos o categorías novedosas. Pensar la filosofía desde América Latina ha sido una actitud insurgente ante la vida y ante imposiciones coloniales y culturales que nuestra región ha tenido como herencia por ser, en otro tiempo histórico, el campo ideal para prácticas de dominio y de subordinación. En ese sentido, quien piensa la filosofía desde América Latina no es un filósofo más, y quien transciende su discurso dentro de la filosofía latinoamericana tendrá que ser recordado más que como filósofo, como un ser humano digno de la humanidad. Sobre todo, porque la filosofía latinoamericana se ha caracterizado por ser un espacio donde se defiende el derecho a la vida y a la humanidad, y quien, dentro de ese espacio pueda hacer transcender su discurso, tendrá que ser un ser humano con una inmensa sensibilidad emocional, una conciencia humana impermutable y una capacidad intelectual admirable.

Strangers at the Gates

Sidney Tarrow places social movements in the broader arena of contentious politics, in relation to states, political parties, and other actors. From peasants and communists in 1960s Italy, to movements and politics in contemporary western polities, to the global justice movement in the new century, the book argues that contentious actors are neither outside of nor completely within politics, but rather they occupy the uncertain territory between total opposition and integration into policy.

A reference guide to the vast array of art song literature and composers from Latin America, this book introduces the music of Latin America from a singer's perspective and provides a basis for research into the songs of this richly musical area of the world. The book is divided by country into 22 chapters, with each chapter containing an introductory essay on the music of the region, a catalog of art songs for that country, and a list of publishers. Some chapters include information on additional sources. She argues that the first step toward decolonizing peace and conflict studies must be our realization that we are powerless in facing the destruction and injustices that we invariably bring with our peace. Victoria Fontan is Associate Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies and Head, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the UN-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. She conducted field research in Lebanon, post-Saddam Iraq, DR Congo, Somaliland and Kashmir. Recently, she has been exploring post-liberal dimensions of Peace and Conflict Studies.
