The gap between the growing cruise and ballistic missile threat to U.S. Air Force bases in Europe and the U.S. capacity and capability to counter the threat is worrisome. This report assesses alternative Air Force courses of action.
"Incentivizing Cybersecurity goes beyond books that simply describe cybersecurity technology or law to provide a coherent and comprehensive explanation of why we are making so little progress in addressing the threat, and it lays out a specific path to address the threat in a new, more effective fashion. The book calls for a new market-based "social contract" between the public and private sectors. Since virtually every aspect of modern life is dependent on these cyber systems, cybersecurity is everybody's issue. It should be required reading for both industry and government leaders, as well as cybersecurity practitioners. The book is a collaborative effort of the Board of Directors of the Internet Security Alliance. Each author is a recognized expert in cybersecurity typically with substantial frontline responsibility for addressing the most sophisticated cyber attackers. Taken together, these authors bring elite-level cybersecurity expertise into one coherent volume"--
Digital infrastructure has emerged as an area of competition between the United States and China. This report examines this competition and describes the implications for long-term military competition and conflict.
The U.S. Air Force is exploring adaptive basing to reduce vulnerability and preserve critical combat capabilities in highly contested environments. These appendixes present supporting analyses, including political challenges and case studies.
This report summarizes an alternative futures analysis of how the global digital infrastructure could evolve out to 2050 and the military implications of those futures for the United States and China.
In this report, researchers describe fifth-generation (5G) security and identify where the United States has security advantages or disadvantages relative to China in the 5G competition and how to preserve those advantages.
The People's Republic of China's (PRC's) and the People's Liberation Army's (PLA's) understanding of the military balance is fundamentally based on systems warfare concepts. The authors provide a detailed analysis of the factors and components associated with PRC leaders' assessments of the Chinese PLA's strength and the implications for the U.S.-China military balance.
Since 2016, Plan Blue wargames have explored scenarios that depict large-scale war fights against state adversaries in order to help U.S. Department of the Air Force (DAF) leaders better understand the demands of these potential war fights, evaluate the capabilities and limitations of programmed forces to meet those demands, and test new approaches to projecting power. The 2021 iteration of the game (Plan Blue 21) was set in the Arctic, in keeping with the Department of Defense's 2019 Arctic strategy, which calls for enhancing capabilities for operations in the region and strengthening the rules-based order there. The purpose of the game was to increase the DAF's understanding of the capabil...
The U.S. Air Force is exploring adaptive basing (AB) concepts to reduce the vulnerability of U.S. forces to growing air and missile threats and to preserve critical combat capabilities in highly contested environments. These concepts are likely to stress the U.S. Air Force's global mobility capabilities. AB concepts call for force packages to operate in mobile and responsive ways to provide protection and fight from positions of advantage. Although these concepts place additional and different demands on the U.S. Air Force's global mobility capabilities, their effect on the Mobility Air Forces (MAF) had not been fully analyzed. In this report, the authors assess the impact of AB concepts on ...
