Whose Learning is it Anyway?
How can language learning in the formal context of the classroom contribute to the learners' communicative competence, whilst at the same time enhancing their general learning skills and preparing them for life long learning? Such a challenge is complex, as is catering to the needs of individual students in a group learning context. This book explores ways in wich a traditional task-based approach to language teaching, can be extended to help students not only to become more skilful language users, but to become more skillful learners in the process.

Functional Approaches to Culture and Translation
This volume contains a generous selection of articles on translation by Professor José Lambert (K.U. Leuven). It traces the intellectual itinerary of their author, who started out as a French and Comparative Literature scholar some four decades ago trying to get a better grip on the problem of inter-literary contacts, and who soon became a key figure in the emergent discipline of Translation Studies, where he is widely known as an indefatigable promoter of descriptively oriented research. This collection shows how José Lambert has never stopped asking new questions about the crucial but often hidden role of language and translation in the world of today. It includes some of the author's classic papers as well as a few lesser known ones that deserve wider circulation. The editors' introduction and the bibliography complete this thought-provoking survey of the career of one of the most creative researchers in the field.

The traditional picture is that there is little information about Tongeren, the capital of the civitas Tungrorum in Roman times, from Late Antiquity onwards. In the last twenty years or so, very cautiously, voices have been raised to nuance the story of the general decline of Tongeren from the beginning of the fifth century. A recurring question is whether Tongeren remained inhabited and what its function might have been. A key site is the Roman basilica, the predecessor of an early medieval church. Hippocrates and Medical Education
The collection of writings known as the Corpus Hippocraticum played a decisive role in medical education for more than twenty-four centuries. This is the first full-length volume on medical education in Graeco-Roman antiquity since Kudlien’s seminal article of 1970. Most of the articles in this volume were originally presented as papers at the XIIth International Colloquium Hippocraticum in Leiden in 2005.
