N.L. Tim

No one living along the meandering CatClaw Creek in the 1920’s could spread a better farm-fresh meal after church like Ella McLeod, despite the dust, the temperatures, or the regularity of West Texas wind. She sustained a large family, husband, 10 sons and daughters and her youngest boy N.L. N.L. enjoys a home life that is much better than Huckleberry Finn’s. While Huckleberry had the entire Mississippi River as his playground, N.L. only has the trickles of CatClaw Creek. Still, his life is filled with many memorable moments from capturing critters, downing tall sodas at the drug store, chasing runaway Stetsons, all the while getting his home chores done. N.L. embraces every adventure as he grows up, learns lessons, and wonders what the future holds.

The Nelson Eight

It was the early 1970s during a tumultuous time in American history when Kevin McLeod first entered the halls of Abilene Christian College. It was there that he and his friends would learn a lodestone of things about themselves, each other, Wildcat football, and the college itself-all while being influenced by coaches, professors, teammates, dormmates, and the female cohabitants just across campus. In an amusing retelling of one week of campus life, McLeod, who was a sophomore in 1973, shares a glimpse into the gears and spiritual machinery of a college in crisis. After he and seven other young men formed a squad with an important mission, they soon realized that there was not a prayer in heaven or on Earth that could save fate from their date with destiny. As he details how he and the Nelson Eight planned and then carried out a raid on a girls' dormitory, McLeod reveals how even a group of very determined young men could not escape the consequences of their actions. The Nelson Eight shares the humorous retelling of the unchristian actions of immature men attending a Christian college in the early 1970s.

Neuroacanthocytosis Syndromes

Neuroacanthocytosis Syndromes

Neuroacanthocytosis Syndromes is the first comprehensive review of a field that has not yet received the attention it deserves. Affecting the brain as well as the circulating red cells, these multi-system disorders in the past had often been mistaken for Huntington's disease. Recent breakthroughs have now identified the molecular basis of several of these. This volume grew out of the first international scientific meeting ever devoted to neuroacanthocytosis and provides in-depth information about the state of the art. Its thirty chapters were written by the leading authorities in the field to cover the clinical as well as the basic science perspective, including not only molecular genetics but also experimental pharmacology and cell membrane biology, among others. The book vehemently poses the question of how the membrane deformation of circulating red blood cells relates to degeneration of nerve cells in the brain, the basal ganglia, in particular. It provides a wealth of data that will help to solve an intriguing puzzle and ease the suffering of those affected by one of the neuroacanthocytosis syndromes.
