Etude des SNAREs de la machinerie de transport à l'interface RE-Golgi chez les plantes supérieures
Le rôle des SNAREs dans la fusion est connu dans les systèmes mammifères et levure contrairement aux plantes. L'objectif de cette thèse est d'étudier les SNAREs putatives de l'interface RE-Golgi, 4 SNAREs (ttSed5, AtMemb11, AtBet11, AtSec22) d'Arabidopsis thaliana potentiellement importantes. L'approche Imagerie a permis de localiser ces 4 protéines dans les appareils de Golgi et dans le réseau RE (pour AtSec22) dans des cellules de l'épiderme inférieur de feuilles de Nicotiana tabacum. Cette thèse montre que AtSec22 et AtMemb11 sont impliquées dans le transport antérograde à l'interface RE-Golgi. Une partie de cette thèse s'intéresse également à l'environnement de ces SNAREs au niveau des machineries COPII et COPI et des sites d'export du RE, en analysant les signaux/motifs potentiels présents dans certaines protéines. Enfin, une approche bio-informatique a également été utilisée pour découvrir des homologues de ces SNAREs voire de nouvelles SNAREs.
Econophysics and Capital Asset Pricing
This book rehabilitates beta as a definition of systemic risk by using particle physics to evaluate discrete components of financial risk. Much of the frustration with beta stems from the failure to disaggregate its discrete components; conventional beta is often treated as if it were "atomic" in the original Greek sense: uncut and indivisible. By analogy to the Standard Model of particle physics theory's three generations of matter and the three-way interaction of quarks, Chen divides beta as the fundamental unit of systemic financial risk into three matching pairs of "baryonic" components. The resulting econophysics of beta explains no fewer than three of the most significant anomalies and puzzles in mathematical finance. Moreover, the model's three-way analysis of systemic risk connects the mechanics of mathematical finance with phenomena usually attributed to behavioral influences on capital markets. Adding consideration of volatility and correlation, and of the distinct cash flow and discount rate components of systematic risk, harmonizes mathematical finance with labor markets, human capital, and macroeconomics.
An Album of Indian Big Tops
An Album of Indian Big Tops, chronicling the circus industry in India from 1880 to 2010, was written by Sreedharan Champad, a flying trapeze artist, journalist, story writer, novelist, film script writer, and circus historian. His book reveals the history of Indian circus life and art, as well as details about the industry. He directly contacted the most prominent people in the Indian circus from the 1950s onward and has researched all available records, making this a lifetime achievement. It took him more than fifty years to complete this history about a "dying art," and no one before has attempted such a book. The book was inspired because, "I had spent my school vacations in circus tents in my boyhood, because some of my close relatives were circus artists living in circus tents."
