Die Frage der internationalen Zuständigkeit für unerlaubte Handlungen gewinnt durch die wachsende Liberalisierung des Welthandels, die Verbesserung der Transportwege und -mittel sowie die Entwicklungen der Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten immer mehr an Bedeutung. Die Arbeit untersucht anhand der Rechtsvergleichung zwischen europäischem, deutschem, englischem, schweizerischem und US-amerikanischem Recht die Frage, ob der in Art. 5 Nr. 3 des Brüsseler und Lugano-Übereinkommens vorgesehene Gerichtsstand der unerlaubten Handlung den Ansprüchen der internationalisierten Wirtschaft gerecht wird. Besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei der Frage der internationalen Zuständigkeit bei Produktehaftungsstreitigkeiten entgegengebracht.
