Transnational Challenges to National History Writing
This collection of essays argues that there is an pre-history, that is, a longer tradition of the transnationalization of historical culture and historical science. It seeks to substantiate the claim that history writing reflected the globality of its time as much as followed the nationalization of the societies in which it was produced.

Decentering European Intellectual Space challenges the conventional view of intellectual history as a debate over the interpretation of a limited number of texts produced by a small group of prominent scholars, writers, and intellectuals from the cultural centers of Europe. Addressing the question “What is European intellectual space?”, this collection of essays seeks to demonstrate how this space is shaped, ordered, and communicated between Europe’s fluctuating cores and peripheries.
