Left and Right

Left and Right One cozy evening while they in the living room were playing with their tiny toy cars, their mother and father where watching the television. They saw something about a red cross. It was not just only about the red cross because they could both see and hear many people talk and entertain with songs and stand-up comedians. Suddenly they heard a woman’s voice say: "It is important that all of us give a hand to Africa." The twins stopped in the middle of their fun and looked scary at one another. It’s a funny book with linguistic quirks, where we hear a lot about the many ways to express the words. Mai Louise Falsig tells the story of Left and Right, exploring the world. It is a book about the hands world in which we follow the two hands. The Twins: Left and Right. The story starts with the twins' birth. We get a brief glimpse into the first part of their upbringing; but most of the book is about their infamous outing where they first become acquainted with all the dangers that lurk in the human world. Even though it's a children's book it is certainly a book that can easily be read by kids as well as elder people.

When Mike's Mom Died

Although this book deals with the story of Mike's mother dying of breast cancer it is still a life-affirming story, in which you will follow her mother's illness and death from a child's point of view. Although what we are most sure of in life is death, many adults find it difficult to relate to death lesser talk about death. As if that were not enough, then adults almost turn traumatic when they are going to tell children about serious illness and death. They dance like the proverbial cat around the warm porridge. Dieselpartikler

Digtsamlingen "Dieselpartikler" viser åbent livets mange facetter. Der er digte om livets solside; men også ensomheden, sorg og fotvivlelse udstilles i al sin nøgenhed. Især digtet om incest er hård kost. Derudover er der digte, som indholder andre måder at kommunikere på end det skrevne ord.

CO2 Hydrogenation Catalysis

A guide to the effective catalysts and latest advances in CO2 conversion in chemicals and fuels Carbon dioxide hydrogenation is one of the most promising and economic techniques to utilize CO2 emissions to produce value-added chemicals. With contributions from an international team of experts on the topic, CO2 Hydrogenation Catalysis offers a comprehensive review of the most recent developments in the catalytic hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to formic acid/formate, methanol, methane, and C2+ products. The book explores the electroreduction of carbon dioxide and contains an overview on hydrogen production from formic acid and methanol. With a practical review of the advances and challenges i...

Steven Holl is revered among architects and students for his quiet and consistent modernist buildings. His reputation among generations of students was cemented during his early tenure at Columbia University and his founding of Storefront for Art and Architecture, a gallery dedicated to the promotion of young architects in New York City. With his embrace of computer technology, Holl made a smooth transition from the 1980s into the digital design era of the 1990s. At the same time, his practice expanded globally and his housing projects in Japan opened to international acclaim. Recently, the ultramodern design of his Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art earned high praise for its revitalizing influence on Helsinki's city centre. This monograph is the only book on the market today to document Holl's full career, from his early houses of the 1970s to his latest designs for museums currently under construction.

The pendulum: a case study in physics is a unique book in several ways. Firstly, it is a comprehensive quantitative study of one physical system, the pendulum, from the viewpoint of elementary and more advanced classical physics, modern chaotic dynamics, and quantum mechanics. In addition, coupled pendulums and pendulum analogs of superconducting devices are also discussed. Secondly, this book treats the physics of the pendulum within a historical and cultural context, showing, for example, that the pendulum has been intimately connected with studies of the earth's density, the earth's motion, and timekeeping. While primarily a physics book, the work provides significant added interest through the use of relevant cultural and historical vignettes. This approach offers an alternative to the usual modern physics courses. The text is amply illustrated and augmented by exercises at the end of each chapter.

Applied Nonlinear Optics

Applied Nonlinear Optics

Directed toward physicists and engineers interested in the device applications enabled by nonlinear optics, this text is suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduate students. Its content is presented entirely on a classical basis and requires only an elementary knowledge of quantum mechanics. The authors demonstrate how real laboratory situations can diverge from ideal theory, acquainting readers with the kinds of problems common to construction of a nonlinear device. They also offer a detailed discussion of the practical problems and characteristics of nonlinear materials, as well as the selection procedures necessary to ensure the use of good material. Their treatment begins with an introduction to the theories of linear and nonlinear optics, along with the basic ideas behind them. Succeeding chapters explore phase matching and nonlinear materials, followed by detailed treatments of second-harmonic generation, parametric up-conversion, and optical parametric amplification and oscillation. Appendixes offer a comprehensive list of materials and their properties; the text concludes with references and an index.

The edition details methods to study intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) including recent topics such as extremely high-affinity disordered complexes, kinetics that evade established concepts, liquid-liquid phase separation, and novel disorder-driven allosteric mechanisms. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and cutting-edge, Intrinsically Disordered Proteins: Methods and Protocols aims to help scientists with different backgrounds to further their investigations into these fascinating and dynamic molecules. Chapters “40 and 42 ” are available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Generalized Riemann Problems in Computational Fluid Dynamics

Generalized Riemann Problems in Computational Fluid Dynamics

Numerical simulation of compressible, inviscid time-dependent flow is a major branch of computational fluid dynamics. Its primary goal is to obtain accurate representation of the time evolution of complex flow patterns, involving interactions of shocks, interfaces, and rarefaction waves. The Generalized Riemann Problem (GRP) algorithm, developed by the authors for this purpose, provides a unifying 'shell' which comprises some of the most commonly used numerical schemes of this process. This monograph gives a systematic presentation of the GRP methodology, starting from the underlying mathematical principles, through basic scheme analysis and scheme extensions (such as reacting flow or two-dimensional flows involving moving or stationary boundaries). An array of instructive examples illustrates the range of applications, extending from (simple) scalar equations to computational fluid dynamics. Background material from mathematical analysis and fluid dynamics is provided, making the book accessible to both researchers and graduate students of applied mathematics, science and engineering.
