Guilt, Gender, and Work-Life Balance in Japan: A Choice Experiment
The quantification of how aspects of a job are valued by employees sheds light on the potential for labor market reform in Japan. Using a nationwide sample of 1,046 working-age adults, we conduct a choice experiment that examines individuals’ willingness to trade wages against job characteristics such as the extent of overtime, job security, the possibility of work transfer and relocation. Our results suggest that: i) workers have high WTP (willingness to pay) to avoid extreme overtime and work transfer, ii) women have higher WTP than men, and iii) higher WTP for women are driven in part by feelings of guilt.

Keine Wende in Sicht
Die Broschüre stellt zentrale Ergebnisse einer Studie zum Zusammenhang von Einkommen und Umweltbeanspruchung übersichtlich dar. In der zugrunde liegenden Studie werden Treibhausgasemissionen, Flächennutzung, Wasserverbrauch und Ressourcennutzung im Zusammenhang mit dem Einkommen und anderen relevanten Einflussfaktoren, wie z. B. Alter, Wohnortgröße oder Bildungsgrad analysiert. Im Ergebnis zeigt sich vor allem: Wer mehr verdient, lebt meist umweltschädlicher. Wesentliche Treiber dieser Entwicklung sind mehr Mobilität und wachsende Wohnflächen. So fahren beispielsweise Besserverdienende häufiger mit dem Auto, unternehmen mehr Flugreisen und nutzen größere Wohnflächen.
Stickstoff: Zu viel des Guten!
"Stickstoff: Zu viel des Guten!" unter diesem Titel veranstalteten BMU und UBA von 2018 bis 2020 einen Dialog mit Bürger*innen, der Empfehlungen für ein "Aktionsprogramms zur integrierten Stickstoffminderung“ entwickelte. In thematisch organisierten Regionalkonferenzen konnten 110 zufällig ausgewählte Bürger*innen etwas über die Stickstoffproblematik erfahren und Maßnahmen zur Reduktion von Stickstoffemissionen vorschlagen. Über die vertieften Diskussionen während einer Delegiertenkonferenz und ein online-Votum wurde ein Bürger*innen -Ratschlag mit 16 Maßnahmenvorschlägen erstellt, der an Bundesumweltministerin Schulze übergeben wurde. - Die Broschüre vermittelt Wissen zum Umweltthema Stickstoff, erläutert den Ablauf des Dialogprozesses und beschreibt die erarbeiteten Maßnahmenvorschläge und Empfehlungen.
