Provides the latest information on imaging technologies and transdermal delivery in skin disorders This important, timely book covers the latest understanding about today's major skin disorders, the development of imaging technologies for skin diagnosis, and the applications of micro/nano-technologies for the treatment of skin complications. It also places great emphasis on the critical role that interdisciplinary science occupies to achieve the requisite level of understanding of skin conditions and their management, which is essential to creating technologies that work. Imaging Technologies and Transdermal Delivery in Skin Disorders starts by outlining the structural characteristics of ski...
This book is a printed edition of the Special Issue "Optical Methods in Sensing and Imaging for Medical and Biological Applications" that was published in Sensors
This entry-level textbook, covering the area of tissue optics, is based on the lecture notes for a graduate course (Bio-optical Imaging) that has been taught six times by the authors at Texas A&M University. After the fundamentals of photon transport in biological tissues are established, various optical imaging techniques for biological tissues are covered. The imaging modalities include ballistic imaging, quasi-ballistic imaging (optical coherence tomography), diffusion imaging, and ultrasound-aided hybrid imaging. The basic physics and engineering of each imaging technique are emphasized. A solutions manual is available for instructors; to obtain a copy please email the editorial department at ialine@wiley.com.
Photoacoustic imaging has become a premier biomedical imaging modality. Photoacoustic Imaging: Theory, Implementation and Applications is the first textbook on photoacoustic imaging, covering fundamental theory, practical implementation of protocols and preclinical/clinical applications. The presentation of theory covers the mathematical derivations as well as the computational simulations. The coverage of implementation includes practical protocols to build both hardware and software systems; the photoacoustic imaging systems presented range from microscopy to tomography. The key technical challenges in terms of signal-to-noise ratios, spatial/temporal resolutions, contrasts, etc. are discu...
This Spotlight discusses photoacoustic imaging (PAI) techniques and highlights the importance of pulsed laser diodes (PLDs). The text introduces the basic principle, signal detection, and various implementations. Computed tomography systems and their instrumentation are also addressed. Other topics include alternative laser sources , high-pulse repetition rate, pulse duration, signal-to-noise ratio, and safety.
Outraged conscience, careful argument, poetry and political analysis -- gathered here is the diversity of voices, traditions, and approaches that are weaving themselves into an anti-nuclear and peace movement in India and Pakistan. In these essays, written before, during, and after the May 1998 nuclear explosions, scholars and activists from both countries attempt to understand and challenge the nuclearisation of South Asia. The essays are an act of resistance against governments that see nuclear weapons as a currency of power, as symbols of prestige, as sources of security, as moments of glory in an otherwise dismal contemporary history. The collection includes Mahatma Gandhi's response to t...
Isocoumarin, Thiaisocoumarin and Phosphaisocoumarin: Natural Occurrences, Synthetic Approaches and Pharmaceutical Applications gives an overview of the various aspects of this class of heterocycle, with a major focus on synthesis and biological activity. Aromatic d lactones or isocoumarins with thiaisocoumarins, phosphaisocoumarins and a-pyranone fused with a heteroaryl ring constitute an important class of heterocyclic compounds. This book provides the methods applied for the synthesis of thiaisocoumarins, phosphaisocoumarins, and a-pyranone fused with a heteroaryl ring. It is useful to medicinal and natural product chemists who want to synthesize target molecules and develop cutting-edge t...
