Agent Based Models for Economic Policy Advice
This special issue of the Journal of Economics and Statistics is devoted to the use of agent-based models for economic policy advice. It presents a collection of research papers in different fields of applications. Special emphasis is laid on discussing the potential and possible limitations of agent-based models for economic policy advice. The editorial provides an overview on the role of agent-based modeling in economic policy referring also to the papers presented. Furthermore, it highlights the strength of the approach, i.e., the explicit microfoundation and the modeling of heterogenous agents. Finally, we also report on current limitations of the method with regard to economic policy advice and point at some areas deserving further research.
The Diversity and Beauty of Applied Operator Theory
This book presents 29 invited articles written by participants of the International Workshop on Operator Theory and its Applications held in Chemnitz in 2017. The contributions include both expository essays and original research papers illustrating the diversity and beauty of insights gained by applying operator theory to concrete problems. The topics range from control theory, frame theory, Toeplitz and singular integral operators, Schrödinger, Dirac, and Kortweg-de Vries operators, Fourier integral operator zeta-functions, C*-algebras and Hilbert C*-modules to questions from harmonic analysis, Monte Carlo integration, Fibonacci Hamiltonians, and many more. The book offers researchers in operator theory open problems from applications that might stimulate their work and shows those from various applied fields, such as physics, engineering, or numerical mathematics how to use the potential of operator theory to tackle interesting practical problems.
Advanced Modelling in Mathematical Finance
This Festschrift resulted from a workshop on “Advanced Modelling in Mathematical Finance” held in honour of Ernst Eberlein’s 70th birthday, from 20 to 22 May 2015 in Kiel, Germany. It includes contributions by several invited speakers at the workshop, including several of Ernst Eberlein’s long-standing collaborators and former students. Advanced mathematical techniques play an ever-increasing role in modern quantitative finance. Written by leading experts from academia and financial practice, this book offers state-of-the-art papers on the application of jump processes in mathematical finance, on term-structure modelling, and on statistical aspects of financial modelling. das um 1300 entstandene ‘Passional’ ist die erste große Legendensammlung in deutscher Sprache und gilt als eines der dichterisch bedeutsamsten und wirkungsmächtigsten Werke der mittelhochdeutschen geistlichen Epik. Der anonyme Autor hat den nach dem Fest- und Heiligenkalender geordneten Legendenstoff seiner Hauptquelle, der ‘Legenda aurea’ des Jacobus de Voragine, neu gegliedert und in drei Bücher aufgeteilt: Buch I fasst die auf die verschiedenen Marien- und Herrenfeste verteilten Stoffe zu einem Marienleben zusammen, Buch II enthält die Apostellegenden und Buch III 75 Heiligenleben. Im Gegensatz zu den Heiligenleben waren Buch I und II bislang nur als Abdruck einer unvollständigen Handschrift zugänglich. Sie liegen nun erstmals in einer Ausgabe vor, welche die Gesamtheit der Überlieferung, das Verhältnis zu den Quellen und den besonderen Wortschatz des Autors ausführlich dokumentiert.
Nanostructured Materials
From a political, societal and scientific point of view, it is imperative to counteract global warming and overcome energy scarcity. From a scientific perspective, nanostructured materials play a crucial role in achieving these goals, e.g. in the development of energy-saving light-emitting diodes, solar cells, rechargeable batteries or gas storage technologies. However, the potential design of the structure-related properties of such nanostructured compounds requires in-depth knowledge and strict control of their crystallization processes, which can be achieved by monitoring the corresponding chemical reactions in situ.
