Cell-Based Therapies in Stroke
Stroke remains one of the main causes of death and disability worldwide. While effective therapy for stroke recovery remains an unmet need. Much hope and promises are placed on cell-based therapies. The aim of this book is to provide focused yet comprehensive reviews on the current state of cell-based approaches in the treatment of stroke. The topics covered include experimental data on functional outcome after intravascular and intracerebral delivery of cells in stroke animals, followed by translational chapters which will rely heavily on the use of different imaging modalities in the tracking of cells. The last and most challenging part will describe the early phase of clinical studies, providing guidelines for future research and clinical applications. Clearly and concisely written, this text will be a useful resource for neurologists, radiologists, and neuroscientists interested in cell transplantation as a therapeutic strategy for stroke patients.

Das Verständnis (patho)physiologischer Prozesse - der Biosynthese von Enzymen, Nukleinsäuren, Sekundärmetaboliten und anderen Biomolekülen, der intrazellulären Signalübertragung oder der Wirkungsweise von Medikamenten - ist nicht nur für die Wirkstoffsuchforschung von wachsender Bedeutung sondern generell für die Entwicklung neuer Synthesemethoden in der organischen Chemie. Die bioorganische Chemie geht in interdisziplinärer Weise diesen zentralen Fragen von Biochemie, medizinischer, organischer und analytischer Chemie nach. Diese verständliche und informative Einführung richtet sich an fortgeschrittene Studenten und bereits auf dem Gebiet arbeitende Chemiker gleichermaßen und füllt damit eine Lücke in den Publikationen zur bioorganischen Chemie. Advances in the Preclinical Study of Ischemic Stroke
This book reports innovations in the preclinical study of stroke, including - novel tools and findings in animal models of stroke, - novel biochemical mechanisms through which ischemic damage may be both generated and limited, - novel pathways to neuroprotection. Although hypothermia has been so far the sole "neuroprotection" treatment that has survived the translation from preclinical to clinical studies, progress in both preclinical studies and in the design of clinical trials will hopefully provide more and better treatments for ischemic stroke. This book aims at providing the preclinical scientist with innovative knowledge and tools to investigate novel mechanisms of, and treatments for, ischemic brain damage.

Nonlinear Model Predictive Control
This book offers readers a thorough and rigorous introduction to nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) for discrete-time and sampled-data systems. NMPC schemes with and without stabilizing terminal constraints are detailed, and intuitive examples illustrate the performance of different NMPC variants. Das Archivmaterial ist - gerade bei kleineren Einrichtungen wie den KZ-Außenlagern und Zwangsarbeitslagern - oft unergiebig. Doch ihre Spuren sind überall in Mitteleuropa auffindbar. Was erzählen diese materiellen Überbleibsel? Archäologie ist ein weitgehend ungenutztes Werkzeug, um dieser Frage nachzugehen. Am Beispiel von Ausgrabungsfunden auf dem Tempelhofer Flugfeld in Berlin zeigt Reinhard Bernbeck detailliert, was eine solche »Archäologie der Moderne« leisten kann, wo ihre Grenzen liegen und wie sie sich in eine umstrittene »Erinnerungskultur« einfügt.
