La sociedad actual se enfrenta a retos globales como el cambio climático, la seguridad alimentaria, las desigualdades sociales y económicas, y el agotamiento de los recursos naturales. Para afrontar esta situación, la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible adoptó, en 2015, un plan de acción cuya finalidad es erradicar la pobreza, proteger el planeta y mejorar la vida de todas las personas en el mundo. Sin embargo, dichas medidas aún no han avanzado a la velocidad deseada ni han tenido los resultados esperados. Por esto es crucial que todos los agentes sociales, entre ellos la universidad, se comprometan y aceleren las acciones para implementar los ODS.

IMF Programs
IMF lending practices respond to economic conditions but are also sensitive to political-economy variables. Specifically, the sizes and frequencies of loans are influenced by a country's presence at the Fund, as measured by the country's share of quotas and professional staff. IMF lending is also sensitive to a country's political and economic proximity to some major shareholding countries of the IMF -- the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. We measured political proximity by voting patterns in the United Nations and economic proximity by bilateral trading volumes. These results are of considerable interest for their own sake but also provide instrumental variables for estimating the effects of IMF lending on economic performance. Instrumental estimates indicate that the size of IMF lending is insignificantly related to economic growth in the contemporaneous five-year period but has a significantly negative effect in the subsequent five years.
How Does Foreign Direct Investment Affect Economic Growth
We test the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on economic growth in a cross-country regression framework, utilizing data on FDI flows from industrial countries to 69 developing countries over the last two decades. Our results suggest that FDI is an important vehicle for the transfer of technology, contributing relatively more to growth than domestic investment. However, the higher productivity of FDI holds only when the host country has a minimum threshold stock of human capital. In addition, FDI has the effect of increasing total investment in the economy more than one for one, which suggests the predominance of complementarity effects with domestic firms.

Fantasy Variations (on George Gershwin's Prelude II for Piano)
Gershwin's Prelude II for piano is the second in a set of three preludes composed in 1936. In Donald Grantham's uniquely original composition, Fantasy Variations, both of the big tunes in the piece are fully exploited, but they do not appear in recognizable form until near the end. The work begins with much more obscure fragments drawn from the introduction, accompanimental figures, transitions, cadences and so forth. These eventually give way to more familiar motives derived from the themes themselves. All of these elements are gradually assembled over the last half of the piece until the themes finally appear in more or less their original form.
