The JDP and Making the Post-Kemalist Secularism in Turkey

This book is an analytical study of secularism in contemporary Turkey by tracing its historical trajectory within the context of political transformation in a country that experienced a social and cultural rupture in its formative years. Its principal focus is on the policies and practices of the current ruling party, the Justice and Development Party (JDP), which has influenced the process of change, evolution, and transformation with regard to secularism and state policies toward religion. Following its foundation in 2001, the JDP developed a unique approach to conceptualising the relationship between state and religion. In contrast to other mainstream parties and political positions both in the past and present, it offers an alternative vision and model to that of inherited Kemalist secularism, as formulated by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (the founder of modern Turkey) and refined by his close associates in the formative period of the Republic. The project draws its findings from in-depth interviews with members of political parties, civil society activists and religious leaders.

Since the detection of the first case of COVID-19, the virus has been wreaking havoc not only among the general public and health care workers but also among the think tanks. A lot of unknown facts about the disease make the situation even more complicated. Although a lot of literature regarding COVID-19 is available on the internet, most are vague and discrete. In such a situation, A Handbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecology care during pandemic of a novel respiratory virus was written to provide all the current guidelines related to the disease in pregnancy, which will help minimise confusion related to patient care. Various sections starting from basic understanding to the key changes in management in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic have been addressed, according to the current evidence. The author feels this book will fulfill the gap of knowledge about the practice of obstetrics and gynecology during the era of COVID-19 and will help practitioners avoid confusion related to patient care.

Forced Migration in Turkey

Turkey hosts more refugees than any other country in the world, with forced migrants from Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and other countries converging, either with hopes to settle in Turkey or to continue onwards to the European Union (EU). This volume addresses the specific experiences and trajectories of forced migrants in Turkey in the context of local and national contexts and the future of EU-Turkey relations. It presents the demographics of forced migrants, the biographies and future plans of refugees, and their interactions with civil society, states, and international agencies. A focus is on organized violence and corresponding experiences in countries of origin, during transit, and at current places. Based on extensive quantitative and qualitative research, this book will be of interest to researchers and practitioners in the fields of migration, human security, and refugee studies, as well as of sociology, political sciences, and international relations.
