Dimensions of Communication
The Dimensions of Communication is an assessment instrument designed to help teachers, educational specialists, speech-language therapists, psychologists, and other service providers evaluate the communication skills of children, adolescents and young adults who have multiple disabilities, including severe or profound mental retardation and deafblindness. This instrument may be especially useful when standard language tests are not applicable. The benefits of this instrument are: it offers a qualitative approach to characterize the forms, breadth and attributes of an individual's communication behaviors when speech may or may not be present; it provides a process that links assessment results to intervention planning.
