Sharing Perspectives for Educating Young Children with Disabilities

This important book is an exploration of the ways parents, teachers and academics view the development and schooling of young children with disabilities. It offers an in-depth examination of the common and critical issues that emerge as children and their families first enter the school system, navigate the educational landscape and learn to advocate for their rights. Each chapter of the book presents a parent’s perspective of significant issues, followed by a teacher’s perspective. From their stories, numerous themes are identified and connected to the academic literature. The experiences shared and the literature reviewed address the challenges, successes and opportunities for increased understanding that emerge as parents and educators work together toward a common goal. Sharing Perspectives for Educating Young Children with Disabilities is essential reading for all pre-service and in-service early childhood and special education professionals and parents engaging in the process of listening carefully to others with the aim of supporting the education of young children.

Rabbit Hash, Kentucky

Folks gave this small town its peculiar moniker as early as 1847, and they've been doing things their own way ever since. Beginning as an important stop for commerce along the Ohio River, the tiny town has endured floods, ice, economic upheaval and all manner of modernization, remaining a beacon of bygone ways in the present day. Always bucking trends, people here elected their first dog for mayor in 1998, sparking a tradition that led to three more successful canine campaigns. So pull up a chair at the general store and join local historian Donald Clare as he presents the first book-length history of Boone County's most celebrated river town.

Clive Bell and the Making of Modernism

'Amusing, charming, stimulating, urbane' - THE TIMES'Revelatory' - GUARDIAN'Restores Clive Bell vividly to life' - Lucasta Miller______________Clive Bell is perhaps better known today for being a Bloomsbury socialite and the husband of artist Vanessa Bell, sister to Virginia Woolf. Yet Bell was a highly important figure in his own right: an internationally renowned art critic who defended daring new forms of expression at a time when Britain was closed off to all things foreign. His groundbreaking book Art brazenly subverted the narratives of art history and cemented his status as the great interpreter of modern art. Bell was also an ardent pacifist and a touchstone for the Wildean values of...

The Dimensions of Communication is an assessment instrument designed to help teachers, educational specialists, speech-language therapists, psychologists, and other service providers evaluate the communication skills of children, adolescents and young adults who have multiple disabilities, including severe or profound mental retardation and deafblindness. This instrument may be especially useful when standard language tests are not applicable. The benefits of this instrument are: it offers a qualitative approach to characterize the forms, breadth and attributes of an individual's communication behaviors when speech may or may not be present; it provides a process that links assessment results to intervention planning.
