A story of family, secrets and love set in the beautiful Devonshire countryside at Woodicombe House. Kate Bratton dreams of more. It’s 1914, and her life is mapped out ahead of her: continue working as a maid in the beautiful Woodicombe House, settle down with Luke the gardener and, of course, start a family. Desperate to run away in search of adventure, Kate’s plans are curtailed by the arrival of the Russell family at Woodicombe House. Tasked with becoming a ladies-maid for their daughter, Naomi, Kate gets a glimpse of the other side of life. Little does she know that all families have secrets, no matter their standing. Will Kate return to the safety of her life before the Russell’s departure? Or will the handsome Ned Russell turn her head? Demons to Doughnuts

DEMONS TO DOUGHNUTS joins two novellas as different as a cold December moon and strawberry pudding. THE TIPTOP JELLY DOUGHNUT, all warm sunshine and good eats, will delight dreamers and lovers of jelly doughnuts from eight to 108. It is set in a lovely land called the Kids' Republic where nobody over ten is allowed. Here the government is run (quite well) by babies. At the helm is President Baby Bumkey, seventeen months old and a born leader. For diplomatic reasons it is urgent that the baker of certain sublime jelly doughnuts be found so he can supply them for a vital state banquet. But the baker of these glorious doughnuts, having reached the age of ten, has been obliged to leave the comfo...

Glenda's Wedding Night

Glenda’s Wedding Night By Nadjina Shanik Glenda’s Wedding Night is a search-for-love story like nothing you've ever read. It takes a look at many different cultures, how they deal with love and marriage. This tale revolves around culture shock and class clash. Our protagonist Glenda marries five times to men of different nationalities in different countries. She progresses hopefully from the spineless wimp to the ultra-macho man of her dreams. Traveling from Tuxedo Park, to Ibiza, Mexico, Greece, Israel, Cyprus, Jordan, Turkey, and New York City, Glenda’s Wedding Night is doormat versus diva, wife versus mistress, career versus home, feminism versus machismo, quack versus witch, users and losers, playboys and wannabes, the Latin culture versus the Anglo culture, and immigrant versus blue-blood. It’s about what everybody thinks they’re missing in life, about dangerous liaisons and fatal attractions. It’s all here in a multicolored tapestry of steamy romance and bizarre travel, spanning decades.

Medieval Women and Their Objects

The essays gathered in this volume present multifaceted considerations of the intersection of objects and gender within the cultural contexts of late medieval France and England. Some take a material view of objects, showing buildings, books, and pictures as sites of gender negotiations and resistance and as extensions of women's bodies. Other reconsider the concept of objectification in the lives of fictional and historical medieval women by looking closely at their relation to gendered material objects, taken literally as women's possessions and as figurative manifestations of their desires.
