A Laboratory of Transnational History

A Laboratory of Transnational History

A first attempt to present an approach to Ukrainian history which goes beyond the standard 'national narrative' schemes, predominant in the majority of post-Soviet countries after 1991, in the years of implementing 'nation-building projects'.An unrivalled collection of essays by the finest scholars in the field from Ukraine, Russia, USA, Germany, Austria and Canada, superbly written to a high academic standard. The various chapters are methodologically innovative and thought-provoking. The biggest Eastern European country has ancient roots but also the birth pangs of a new autonomous state. Its historiography is characterized by animated debates, in which this book takes a definite stance. The history of Ukraine is not written here as a linear, teleological narrative of ethnic Ukrainians but as a multicultural, multidimensional history of a diversity of cultures, religious denominations, languages, ethical norms, and historical experience. It is not presented as causal explanation of 'what has to have happened' but rather as conjunctures and contingencies, disruptions, and episodes of 'lack of history.'

Transition Education and Services for Adolescents with Disabilities

This book covers the transition of individuals with mild and moderate disabilities to all aspects of adult life. The text includes not only the transition to employment, but also the transition to future living and post-secondary educational environments. Transition Education and Services for Adolescents with Disabilities builds upon the success of past editions, but it also presents a new and fresh look at the areas of transition education and transition services. Two separate models are proposed, one to cover transition education and the other to provide an overview of transition services. The separate but equal emphasis on each model component will help readers see their own roles more clearly. This book is intended for use by those in pre-service education programs as well as those currently in the field.

The startling, frighteningly convincing sequel to The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail that reveals the very nature of the Messianic Legacy. After the shocking revelations of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail the authors, in their quest to determine the discrepancies between early and modern 'Christian' thought, found that they were forced to ask such questions as: *Was there more than one Christ? *Was Christ the founder of Christianity? *Were the disciples as peace-loving as it is traditionally assumed? *What links the Vatican, the CIA, the KGB, the Mafia, Freemasonry, P2, Opus Dei and the Knights Templar *What mysterious modern crusade implicates British industry, Churchill and de Gaulle, the...

The collapse of Polish rule in the Ukraine in the mid-seventeenth century changed the course of East European history. The great Cossack revolt of 1648 exposed the weaknesses of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. After the emergence of a Ukrainian polity, a struggle for dominance ensued, paving the way for the Russian annexation of the Ukraine. Frank Sysyn examines the failure of Polish policy through the career of Adam Kysil. A leader of the Ukrainian nobility and an official of the Polish government, Kysil was ideally suited to serve as the mediator between the rebels and the government. His failure signaled the already irreconcilable differences that divided them. Based on extensive archival research in Poland and the USSR, Sysyn's study is a contribution not only to scholarship on Eastern Europe, but also to discussions on the preconditions and nature of early modern revolts and on the change of political and social elites.

The Ukrainian language has followed a tortuous path over 150 years of tsarist, Soviet, and post-Soviet history. The Battle for Ukrainian documents that path, and serves as an interdisciplinary study essential for understanding language, history, and politics in both Ukraine and the post-imperial world.
