The region of Rough Cilicia (modern area the south-western coastal area of Turkey), known in antiquity as Cilicia Tracheia, constitutes the western part of the larger area of Cilicia. It is characterised by the ruggedness of its territory and the protection afforded by the high mountains combined with the rugged seacoast fostered the prolific piracy that developed in the late Hellenistic period, bringing much notoriety to the area. It was also known as a source of timber, primarily for shipbuilding. The twenty-two papers presented here give a useful overview on current research on Rough Cilicia, from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine period, with a variety of methods, from surveys to excavatio...

As the outcome of the seventh international congress, the papers in this volume cover a wide range of topics related to the main theme of the conference, titled “Current Debates in Social Sciences”, and basically focus on finance and econometrics. Even though most of the papers deal with the empirical analysis on finance, there are also studies on econometrics analysis. In this context, the articles in the book draw attention to the different aspects of finance and econometrics such as outlined banking sector studies, capital market analysis and case studies, the impact of the use of social media for financial purposes on financial literacy, discussion of the performance evaluation of Type A mutual funds in Turkey. The U-shape hypothesis validity in Turkey, validity of the hypothesis of unemployment hysteria in selected OECD countries. We believe that these studies would contribute to the development of debates in social sciences and encourage interdisciplinary approaches.

Telefonunun hızlı aramasından Ediz'i aradı. -Biraz geç olmadı mı aramak için, oğlum saat kaç çabuk ol yoksa sensiz gireceğim müdürün yanına. -O cesaretin varsa hiç durma Edo, tutan yok seni –Yeminle bazen çok çekilmez ol...

Reflections On International Relations & Politics & History & Law

Does social science matter? Yes. Why does social science matter? It provides humans with knowledge, in form of research and theory, that allows us to understand our surroundings and how the social realm works. In addition to the theoretical and empirical understanding of the social realm, social science allows us to anticipate and shape aspects of future social developments and outcomes – e.g., demography and human security and social unrests; or actions and potential reactions between and among individuals, state-actors and non-state actors and their implication on the social realm. Thus, social science matters due to its canon of knowledge which empowers humans with tools to not just und...

Over the past fifty years professional understanding of planning has changed markedly. In the past, planning was primarily described as a technical activity involving data collection, analysis, and synthesis of physical plans and supporting policies. Now planning is seen as a much broader set of human activities, encompassing the physical world and also the realm of public and social services. Not surprisingly, planners' discussions of ethics have evolved. Professional ethics is regarded by many planners to be limited to a set of rules of behavior regarding interactions with the public, sources of data, government officials, and one another. This shift is symbolized by the evolution of the la...

This book focuses on the similarities and differences between substance and non-substance addictions. It discusses in detail the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of substance and non-substance addictions, and addresses selected prospects that will shape future studies on addiction. Addiction is a global problem that costs millions of lives tremendous damage year after year. There are mainly two types of addition: substance addiction (e.g., nicotine, alcohol, cannabis, heroin, stimulants, etc.) and non-substance addiction (e.g., gambling, computer gaming, Internet, etc.). Based on existing evidence, both types of addiction produce negative impacts on individuals’ physical, mental, social and financial well-being, and share certain common mechanisms, which involve a dysfunction of the neural reward system and specific gene transcription factors. However, there are also key differences between these two types of addiction. Covering these aspects systematically, the book will provide researchers and graduate students alike a better understanding of drug and behavioral addictions.
