Pia Fries
Since the 1990s, Pia Fries has undisputedly been one of the leading international figures in painting. Born in Beromünster (CH) in 1955, the artist has lived in Düsseldorf since the 1980s and in recent years has worked as a professor at Berlin University of the Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. This publication was created to accompany Pia Fries's solo exhibition at Kunsthaus Baselland and is the first to combine current and historical exhibition photographs with a variety of different texts, including a literary text by Sophia Remer, an art history essay by journalist and author Niklaus Oberholzer, and a conversation between Pia Fries and Ines Goldbach.

Law and Economics in Europe
This anthology illustrates how law and economics is developing in Europe and what opportunities and problems – both in general and specific legal fields – are associated with this approach within the legal traditions of European countries. The first part illuminates the differences in the development and reception of the economic analysis of law in the American Common Law system and in the continental European Civil Law system. The second part focuses on the different ways of thinking of lawyers and economists, which clash in economic analysis of law. The third part is devoted to legal transplants, which often accompany the reception of law and economics from the United States. Finally, the fourth part focuses on the role economic analysis plays in the law of the European Union. This anthology with its 14 essays from young European legal scholars is an important milestone in establishing a European law and economics culture and tradition.

Erkenntnisse von Fachkommissionen - Chance einer umfassenden Überprüfung oder Instrument der Repression? Psychiatrische Gutachten im Fokus des Bundesgerichts - Gerechtfertigte Strenge oder zu hohe Anforderungen?
Immer wieder geben die Entscheidungsgrundlagen für Massnahmen, nicht zuletzt die Empfehlungen der Fachkommissionen, zu Diskussionen Anlass. Von den einen werden diese Kommissionen als gelungene Idee gepriesen, an einen Fall unabhängig und interdisziplinär heranzugehen. Andere beobachten in der Praxis, dass immer wieder Lockerungs- und Entlassungsentscheide durch Fachkommissionen verzögert oder verhindert werden und finden die Vorgehensweise der Kommission intransparent. Von juristischer Seite wird immer wieder auch das Verfahren innerhalb der Kommissionstätigkeit beanstandet. Nicht weniger intensiv ist im juristischen Alltag die Diskussion psychiatrischer Gutachten. Während unter materiellen Gesichtspunkten die Praxis zum Massnahmenrecht vor dem Hintergrund eines dominierenden Sicherheitsdenkens relativ starr ist, fällt in diesem Bereich eine Fokussierung des Bundesgerichts auf formelle Fragen auf. Besonders in Kreisen der Psychiatrie stösst dies nicht auf grosses Verständnis. Es lohnte sich in diesem Zusammenhang, die Diskussion der Frage nach der Kompetenzverteilung zwischen psychiatrischen Sachverständigen und Justizangehörigen, nochmals aufzunehmen.
