The Quarantine Series Book
The 2003-2004 Quarantine Series of exhibitions, documented here, examined art in the social context of an Amsterdam café--but these artworks aren't your everyday local java joint's hangings. The series features more than 40 internationally known designers and artists, such as the French provocateur, Alain Declercq, who fired 25,000 bullets into plasterboard fit to the walls, resulting in a picture of an armada.

A work of art that grows and blossoms and produces delicious fruit and vegetables: that is what the British artist Nils Norman (b. 1966) has devised for various locations in The Hague. He cooperated with volunteers to create a special vegetable garden, "Edible garden", on the basis of permaculture, a form of ecological gardening. In this book Norman explains how he sets to work, what his sources of inspiration are, and in which artistic and social-critical context his work can be placed.
Africa Junctions
Dutch photographer Lard Buurman captures the African city as a site of permanent change and incessant encounter in his photographs. Life takes place on the streets here, and public and private spheres blend. A sidewalk inconspicuously becomes a family kitchen or is suddenly transformed into a shop. Metropolises in Africa are characterised by informal structures and the art of improvisation; their colonial pasts have left marks that continue into the present in for the form of social inequality and bad governance. the images, which are the result of combining several snapshots into a single scene, enable the viewer to take in the vibrant urban space of these bustling cities.

The "Museum of Contemporary African Art" is an art installation conceived by the artist Meschac Gaba in 1997. This book documents the first six rooms of the museum (there were to be twelve) and was published with the display of the 7th room of the museum, the Library, at the Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam in 2001.
