Kasus HIV/AIDS terus mengalami peningkatan, selain itu perkembangannya juga sangat cepat, virus HIV dapat menyebabkan penurunan kadar (CD4) pada penderita sehingga sangat mudah terinfeksi penyakit oportunistik. Menurut data Departemen Kesehatan RI data per Juni 2019, jumlah penderita HIV/AIDS di Indonesia sebanyak 50.282. Triwulan Januari hingga Juni 2013 ditemukan sebanyak 10.210 kasus HIV dan 780 kasus AIDS.
