Identifying tumor-specific molecular aberrations via molecular profiling is vital for the use of targeted therapies. Understanding a patient’s unique tumor genetics provides predictive and prognostic information that enables a personalized care plan to be put in place, improving outcomes and minimizing ineffective treatments. 'Fast Facts: Molecular Profiling in Solid Tumors' provides a firm knowledge foundation of somatic molecular profiling methodologies, key information to help with the use of molecular profiling in daily practice and advice on communicating with patients about molecular testing and results. Table of Contents: • Molecular profiling: the basics • Rationale for testing • Sample collection • Test selection and process • Interpreting the report • Talking to patients • Challenges and opportunities
Lung cancer is still a major cause of death globally, but the development of personalized, precision medicine has had a marked effect on treatment management and improved clinical outcomes, particularly for those with advanced stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). EGFR mutations are the third most common mutation found in patients with advanced stage NSCLC. First-line treatment with a traditional epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) is indicated for most patients, but not for patients with EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations (ex20ins). Instead, recent approvals of an EGFR ex20ins-specific TKI (mobocertinib) and a bispecific antibody (amivantamab) targeting both EGFR and mesenchymalepithelial transition factor (MET) offer the potential for improved outcomes in this patient population. Furthermore, new approaches to treatment continue to be developed and trials for new agents with greater activity against ex20ins mutations are ongoing. Table of Contents: • EGFR and mutations • EGFR mutation testing • Treatment decisions • Therapies in development
We are now entering the third decade of the 21st Century, and, especially in the last years, the achievements made by scientists have been exceptional, leading to major advancements in the fast-growing field of Oncology. Frontiers has organized a series of Research Topics to highlight the latest advancements in research across the field of Oncology, with articles from the Associate Members of our accomplished Editorial Boards. This editorial initiative of particular relevance, led by Prof. David Eisenstat, Specialty Chief Editor of the Neuro-Oncology and Neurosurgical Oncology section, together with Prof. Erik Sulman, focused on new insights, novel developments, current challenges, latest di...
The development of intracranial metastatic disease (IMD) complicates the course of 20% of patients with cancer. Despite improvements in patient survival with more aggressive treatment options as compared to the prior standard of palliative whole brain radiation, outcomes for patients who develop IMD remain dispiriting. There is need to celebrate our advances; but a major collaborative multidisciplinary effort is needed to push the field to achieve more meaningful survival benefits for our patients with IMD. In this Research Topic collection, we have assembled work detailing the latest innovations in brain metastases imaging and management, spanning from minimally invasive surgery to immunotherapy. We hope that you find it a valuable resource.

This book, now in its second edition, provides a comprehensive overview of current re-irradiation strategies, with detailed discussion of re-irradiation methods, technical aspects, the role of combined therapy with anticancer drugs and hyperthermia, and normal tissue tolerance. In addition, disease specific chapters document recent clinical results and future research directions. All chapters from the first edition have been revised and updated to take account of the latest developments and research findings, including those from prospective studies. Due attention is paid to the exciting developments in the fields of proton irradiation and frameless image-guided ablative radiotherapy. The bo...

A translational overview of neuroimmune diseases for neuroscientists and clinicians that clarifies the pathological mechanisms underlying neuroimmune diseases and builds a comprehensive bridge between the latest research findings and their clinical implications in daily practice. The material is presented in two steps. The first section comprises a review of the pathogenic actions of immune cells in brain diseases. Here the authors discuss the mechanisms through which immune cells disrupt the functions of nerve cells. The second section explores the ways in which the brain becomes dysfunctional due to impaired nerve cell function. Based on pathogenesis, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies are discussed for each clinical category. The book will be invaluable for use in clinical practice of neuroimmune diseases
