Searching for Justice After the Holocaust
The Nazis and their state-sponsored cohorts stole mercilessly from the Jews of Europe. In the aftermath of the Holocaust, returning survivors had to navigate a frequently unclear path to recover their property from governments and neighbors who had failed to protect them and who often had been complicit in their persecution. This book is about the less publicized area of post-Holocaust restitution involving immovable (real) property confiscated from European Jews and others during World War II.
Law, Populism, and the Political in Central and Eastern Europe
This book addresses the variety of right-wing illiberal populism which has emerged in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Against the backdrop of weak institutional traditions, frequent and profound transformations, and deep historical traumas affecting the law, politics, economy and society in the region, the book critically examines the entanglements of legality in the region’s transformation from state socialism to neoliberalism and Western-style democracy. Drawing on critical legal theory, as well as legal history, legal theory, sociology of law, history of ideas, anthropology of law, comparative law, and constitutional theory, the book goes beyond conventional analyses to offer an in-depth account of this important contemporary phenomenon. This book will be of interest to legal researchers, especially of a critical or socio-legal perspective, political scientists, sociologists and (legal) historians, as well as policy makers seeking to understand the regional specificity and deeper roots of Central and Eastern European illiberal populism.

Niniejsza monografia jest efektem obrad podczas międzynarodowej konferencji naukowej poświęconej tematyce public relations w naukach ekonomicznych. Idea konferencji dotyczącej ekonomii informacji powstała pod koniec XX wieku w Katedrze Publicystyki Ekonomicznej i Public Relations Akademii Ekonomicznej w Poznaniu (a obecnego Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Poznaniu). Było to miejsce, gdzie spotykali się zarówno teoretycy reprezentujący różne ośrodki badawcze z Polski jak i zza granicy. Głównym pomysłodawcą konferencji był Prof. Ryszard Ławniczak, który przez wiele lat rozwijał koncepcję transformacyjnego PR. Koncepcja transformacyjnego public relations jest obecnie mocna osadzona w literaturze międzynarodowej i wskazuje na istotną rolę działań informacyjnych w gospodarce, w szczególności w okresie zmian systemowych.
The Everyday Politics of Migration Crisis in Poland
This book explores attitudes towards migrants and refugees from North Africa and the Middle East during the so-called migration crisis in 2015-2016 in Poland. Beginning with an examination of Polish government policy and the discursive construction of refugees in the media, politics and popular culture, it argues that they identified refugees with Muslims, who were deemed to pose a threat to the Polish nation. This analysis establishes the Islamophobic public discourse which is shown to be variously reproduced, negotiated and contested in the nuanced study of Polish attitudes which follows. Drawing on original qualitative research and constructivist theory, the book examines differing stances towards refugees in the context of the lay understanding of the Polish nation and its boundaries. In doing so it demonstrates the influence of discourses that draw on an exclusionary concept of national identity and the potential for them to be mobilised against immigrants. This timely, theory-based case study will provide a valuable resource for students and scholars of Central and Eastern European politics, nationalism, race, migration and refugee studies.
Europe at the Crossroads
The far right is on the rise. And there are signs that part of the political mainstream in Europe, the US, and beyond is considering accommodating far-right populist parties and their divisive, ethno-nationalist programs. Europe at the Crossroads is an urgent scholarly response to the sociopolitical challenges that far-right programs pose to the idea of a more egalitarian world.
