The Rundle name can be traced back to the Norman conquest. Rundles spread through Cornwall and Devon in south west England during the 15th and 16th centuries. Our branch of the Rundle family had been tenant farmers at Bratton Clovelly in Devon for several generations. This is the story of James Rundle and Jane Ellis who were born at Bratton Clovelly, and married in 1855. They were tenant farmers at Higher Voaden. With their young family of five children they emigrated to South Australia in 1863. They initially settled in the Yankalilla area but purchased land and moved to the Kulpara-Paskeville district in 1877. This book describes how three generations of the family farmed the land, initially in Devon and then in various parts of South Australia. It documents their hardships, achievements and contribution to the life of their rural communities as they strove to bring land into production and build properties that would provide for their growing families.

This book is the true story of my quest to live as a free spirit for a year of my life, mentally, physically and sexually. The year is 1975, I was 24 and I had abandoned a marriage and walked away from a secure job as a BBC make-up artist. Where in the modern world would I find the wide open horizons that I sought? How would I live? Would I share the adventure? The ocean, a boat and an open relationship provided my answers. Travelling with no fixed itinerary, no advance reservations, no return ticket and no fixed destination. We became true free spirits open to the dictionarys definition of adventure: one who lives on his wits. Risk. A remarkable happening.' My mood was at odds with the rest of the country. After the previous years three day week, strikes and Harold Wilsons minority government, Britain was bracing itself for Denis Healeys tough new budget. I was about to sail away from all this, but what lay ahead could be much worse and certainly carried more risk. Restless, excited, optimistic and definitely naive I did it anyway. There is a phrase, "be careful what you wish for as it might come true"

Hopatcong: A Century of Memories

Within easy reach of large cities to the east, Lake Hopatcong - situated at over 900 feet above sea level - was a perfect vacation destination. From the 1880s through the 1930s, the Lake welcomed thousands of people each year, including leaders of government, industry, and entertainment. Lower daytime temperatures and cool evenings made the region a welcome respite from the urban centers to the east. As the area developed as a resort, the borough of Brooklyn was founded on Lake Hopatcong's west shore in the waning years of the nineteenth century. Soon renamed the Borough of Hopatcong, it experienced rapid growth and development. In this exciting new volume, you are invited to take a look back at Hopatcong's first century - to experience the eary years, visit the grand hotels, meet the rich and famous who passed through, and relive the night life that caused thousands to flock here each summer.
