Con el volumen de ensayo La poética de Rafaela Chacón Nardi obtuve, en la segunda convocatoria de la Colección Pinos Nuevos (1996), el Premio de esa categoría, y fue publicado, ese mismo año, por la Editorial Letras Cubanas. En ese momento, lo que más disfruté fue la alegría que mostró Rafaela al saber que llevaría a un libro su vida y su obra. A ella nos unió, a mi esposo, Waldo González López (poeta, crítico literario y teatral, así como periodista cultural) y a mí grandes lazos de amistad, que partieron primero de la admiración que siempre despertó en nosotros. Tuvimos el gran placer de compartir con ella inolvidables momentos de infinita cultura. Por ello, nada más justo que preparara un estudio sobre su poética y su magisterio. Y ahora, a veinte años de su muerte (2001-2021), pretendo revitalizar su memoria con otra visión de su quehacer, ya que, con posterioridad a la publicación de La poética de Rafaela Chacón Nardi, vieron la luz todos sus poemarios que con placer preparé, como editora y antóloga.

Daughters of the Diaspora
Daughters of the Diaspora features the creative writing of 20 Hispanophone women of African descent, as well as the interpretive essays of 15 literary critics. The collection is unique in its combination of genres, including poetry, short stories, essays, excerpts from novels and personal narratives, many of which are being translated into English for the first time. They address issues of ethnicity, sexuality, social class and self-representation and in so doing shape a revolutionary discourse that questions and subverts historical assumptions and literary conventions. Miriam DeCosta-Willis's comprehensive Introduction, biographical sketches of the authors and their chronological arrangement within the text, provide an accessible history of the evolution of an Afra-Hispanic literary tradition in the Caribbean, Africa and Latin America. The book will be useful as textbook in courses in Africana Studies, Women's Studies, Caribbean, Latina and Latin American Studies as well as courses in literature and the humanities.
