Tempat tumbuh utama tanaman sungkai di hutan sekunder pada kondisi berair, namun terkadang terdapat juga di hutan sekunder kering. Oleh karenanya Metabolit sekunder yang terkandung dalam ekstrak daun sungkai antara lain golongan senyawa alkaloid, flavanoid, terpenoid-steroid, dan golongan tannin. Hasil isolasi ekstrak n-heksan daun sungkai memiliki kandungan kimia senyawa terpenoid, data spektra UV dengan panjang gelombang maksimum 207, dan data IR senyawa isolat aktif mengandung gugus fungsi OH (hidroksil) -CH- alifatik, C=O (karbonil), C – O (keton), C=C– (ester siklik atau aromatik), dan CH2 dan CH3 (alkil alifatik).

Dapat disimpulkan bahwa fraksi etanol daun sungkai dengan dosis 0,084 g/ kgbb adalah merupakan dosis yang paling efektif dan dapat berpotensi sebagai antimalaria. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa fraksi etanol daun sungkai memiliki kemampuan dalam menghambat pertumbuhan parasit P.berghei dalam darah mencit putih jantan yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan obat sintesis kloroquin.
