Reconstructing Prayer

Reconstructing Prayer

In the West, many Christians are "deconstructing" and/or "doubting" their faith. As a result, some people seeking to follow Jesus have become disillusioned with prayer--perhaps even skeptical about it. And yet there is still a great desire and longing for connection with God. What is needed, then, is a reconstructed account of prayer--one that is theologically robust, pastorally honest, and spiritually wise. Andrew Ray Williams seeks to provide such an account by providing meditations on childlike prayers in hopes that it might open new ways of understanding specific issues related to Christian faith.

Ted Ray

This book is about Edward Ted Ray who was born in the village of Gorey, on the east coast of the island of Jersey near Grouville, which was the nursery of many famous golfers, including the legendary Harry Vardon. Ted was one of the biggest stars in professional golf, considered a mighty driver of the golf ball and a prince of putters. He won the Open Championship in 1912, the US Open in 1920, and many other prestigious tournaments in Great Britain and mainland Europe. He played for Great Britain against the USA in 1921 at Gleneagles and in 1926 at Wentworth. He was the player captain of the Great Britain team in the first ever Ryder Cup match of 1927. Ted would also represent England against Scotland on nine occasions in their annual team matches, as well as Englands nonplaying captain in the 1930s. Ted Ray toured the USA, along with Harry Vardon, in 1913 and 1920 to promote and popularize golf in the Americas. He, like many of the greats of the game, is one of the forgotten men of golf. The book endeavors to spotlight a golfer who is now a distant memory and one that has inexplicably never been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Boundless Love

Clark H. Pinnock (1937-2010) was arguably one of the most noted, productive, and provocative Christian theologians in North American evangelical Christianity in the late twentieth century. Considering how challenging he is to classify and yet how significant his work has been, Pinnock should be widely studied today. However, for many, their first introduction to Pinnock's writing is facilitated through various critical sources. For too long, Pinnock's theology has been stuck within the confines of tired stereotypes and overly simplistic summaries. Andrew Ray Williams, then, gives Pinnock a fresh and fair hearing, outlining some of his major themes while also providing an accessible point of entry into his theology. In doing so, this book is usable and profitable for both longtime fans as well as critics of Pinnock, while also offering first-time readers of Pinnock an open-minded position from which to read him.

Samson—The Modern-Day America

Power is the point of envy of those who are weak and the pride of those who are not. Although power can hold command over the lives of others, it can very much lead to the destruction of the one controlling it. Author Stephen R. Williams discusses the pitfalls of abused power without repentance and guidance in his latest book, SamsonThe Modern-Day America. Most people are familiar with the story of Samson, the only man to hold incredible strength in the Bible. He was born to dedicate a life of service to the Lord, ordained by God to be a Nazarite, and destined to judge and rule the Philistines. A similar plot leads us to the powerful country of America, which was once a nation of people seeking for a place of worship and service to God. Through time, both Samson and America acquired power that any entity could ever want. However, a common weakness leads them both to destruction. Discover the cause of a great mans fall and its shocking similarity to the struggle of a powerful country. Backed with biblical Scriptures, SamsonThe Modern-Day America is a book that holds nothing but the key to a struggling countrys redemption.
