One of the most respected and adventurous of writers on the mystical traditions of Christianity, himself a Carmelite, Noel Dermot O'Donoghue has gathered together his definitive reflections on the three great mystical doctors of the Catholic Church: St Teresa of Avila, St John of the Cross and St Therese of Lisieux. These inter-related essays are the fruit of a lifetime, written in O'Donoghue's richly poetic way. Praise for O'Donoghue's book Heaven in Ordinarie 'Searching and moving... combines the sensibility to language and feeling of a poet with an astonishing intellectual boldness... a wonderful and visionary account of orthodox Christianity.' Between March and October of 1968 Picasso produced 347 etchings in varying sizes and techniques. Uncharacteristically, he did very little drawing and almost no painting during that year. He abandoned sculpture altogether. Instead he turened his gaze almost entirely in the direction of the etchings. One of the aims of this book is to establish how and under what conditions he contructed that meaning.

Finding Dora Maar

Merging biography, memoir, and cultural history, this compelling book, a bestseller in France, traces the life of Dora Maar (1907–1997) through a serendipitous encounter with the artist’s address book. In search of a replacement for his lost Hermès agenda, Brigitte Benkemoun’s husband buys a vintage diary on eBay. When it arrives, she opens it and finds inside private notes dating back to 1951—twenty pages of phone numbers and addresses for Balthus, Brassaï, André Breton, Jean Cocteau, Paul Éluard, Leonor Fini, Jacqueline Lamba, and other artistic luminaries of the European avant-garde. After realizing that the address book belonged to Dora Maar—Picasso’s famous “Weeping Wo...

No book has portrayed the provocative topic of handwriting analysis with as much sweep and depth. Veteran handwriting analyst Martin Povser covers all the issues that have intrigued the public and analysts themselves, including the ones about doctors writing and printed writing. Since an analysis determines the writers personality, he shows many practical uses for an analysis, from personal and family to commercial and governmental. He even delves into cutting-edge issues, such as graphotherapyreforming your personality by altering your handwriting. What about people with serious social problems? Povser discusses what we can learn from the writing of anorexics, ax murderers, embezzlers, and ...
