Ricarda Denzer – ganz ohr / all ears

  • Categories: Art

Bare Bodies – Thresholding Life

  • Categories: Art

Body – art – performance – philosophy This anthology is dedicated to the theme of bodies – in transition, on thresholds, and at the edges of life. They are discussed in terms of their artistic, political, and existential dimensions. The focus of this artistic-philosophical consideration of the intersection of performance practices and life practices is on processes of emergence, survival, and decay, tracing the emergence of bio- and necropolitics. The book looks at performative (life) cycles and their temporal dimension, emphasizing the moment of dwelling at a threshold or transition, thus spinning a relational textual web. Mariella Greil brings together contributions from the fields of performance, activism, psychoanalysis, and contemporary dance, connecting content and form in a unique way. Following on from the publication Being in Contact: Encountering a Bare Body (2021) A multilayered book with a transparent dust jacket, recycled and transparent paper, inserts, and open thread stitching With contributions by Fiona Bannon, Ashon Crawley, Gurur Ertem, Rebecca Hilton, Pavlos Kountouriotis, and others

Diversity in artistic research This book presents the results of the Octopus Programme, an innovative fellowship in the field of artistic research. This international network of eleven institutions included selected participants from Europe, the Mediterranean, and Africa, and generated numerous events, workshops, and exhibitions. By promoting international collaboration, new critical perspectives were developed to investigate the diversity of artistic research and practice in different contexts – academic as well as nonacademic – inside and outside institutions, or in relation to resources. This brings into focus not only different curatorial models, but also different modes of knowledge production. Artistic research and collaboration between academies, art institutions, students, and experts Curatorial forms of presentation, research and documentation, progressive educational methodology Contributions by Ruth Anderwald / Leonhard Grond, Jonatan Habib Engqvist, Maria Lantz, Barbara Putz-Plecko, Johan Thom, and others

The Poet & the Baroness

For long periods in history, the Austrian capital found itself on the geographical edge of western civilisation. Yet from the 18th century on, Vienna has been a vibrant centre of European culture. This city is the scene of the formidable meeting of the two outstanding intellectuals that are at the core of this book. The warm relationship between W.H. Auden, the celebrated British-American poet (1907-1973), and his fellow expatriate, the Welsh-Austrian journalist, translator and writer Stella Musulin (1915-1996) lasted while Auden resided in the nearby small town of Kirchstetten starting in 1958. It was here that the poet was laid to rest in the autumn of 1973. This book is based on the unpub...

Acoustic Territories, Second Edition

The revised edition of Acoustic Territories: Sound Culture and Everyday Life offers an expansive reading of auditory life. It provides a careful consideration of the performative dynamics inherent to sounding and listening, and discusses how sound studies may illuminate understandings of contemporary society. Combining research on urbanism, popular culture, street life and sonic technologies, Acoustic Territories opens up a range of critical perspectives--it challenges debates surrounding noise pollution and charts an "acoustic politics of space" by engaging auditory experience as found within particular cultural histories and related ideologies. Brandon LaBelle traces sound culture through ...
