Applying Economics to Institutional Research
This volume provides an overview of the many ways that economic concepts, models, and methods have been, and can be, applied to higher education problems encountered in institutional research. The chapter authors are uniquely qualified to provide this perspective: all are higher education researchers who have received graduate training in economics and have substantial experience working directly in institutional research. The chapters in this volume focus on the economist's perspective on education costs and revenues, how economics can inform enrollment management efforts, and how institutional researchers can use economics to understand labor market issues for faculty. Unresolved Issues in Salary-Equity Studies
Chapters discuss the issues surrounding how to use faculty rank, seniority, and experience as control variables in salary-equity studies. Contributors review the challenges of conducting a salary-equity study for nonfaculty administrators and staff--who constitute the majority of employees, even in academic institutions - and examine the advantages and disadvantages of using hierarchical linear modeling to measure pay equity. Knowledge Production in European Universities
The book studies transformations of European universities in the context of globalization and Europeanization, the questioning of the foundations of the «Golden Age» of the Keynesian welfare state, public sector reforms, demographic changes, the massification and diversification of higher education, and the emergence of knowledge economies.
