This study aims to measure the productivity and factors which affect the productivity of Islamic life insurance companies in Indonesia for the 2014-2019 periods. This study employed a Two-Stage Malmquist Productivity Index. The first stage was to measure productivity using the Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) method. This study applied an output orientation and an intermediation approach. The second stage employed the panel data regression method to find out the factors affecting productivity. The results of MPI revealed that Islamic life insurance companies in Indonesia had not reached productivity. This is due to the low value of technological changes. The second stage yielded a result in ...

Conserving Bird Biodiversity

The earth's biodiversity currently faces an extinction crisis that is unprecedented. Conservationists attempt to intervene in the extinction process either locally by protecting or restoring important species and habitats, or at national and international levels by influencing key policies and promoting debate. Reliable information is the foundation upon which these efforts are based, which places research at the heart of biodiversity conservation. The role of research in such conservation is diverse. It includes understanding why biodiversity is important, defining 'units' of biodiversity, priority-setting for species and sites, managing endangered and declining populations, understanding large-scale processes, making predictions about the future and interfacing with training, education, public awareness and policy initiatives. Using examples from a wide range of bird conservation work worldwide, researchers consider the principles underlying these issues, and illustrate how these principles have been applied to address actual conservation problems for students, practitioners and researchers in conservation biology.

Conservation Science and Action

Conservation Science and Action is intended for upper-levelundergraduate and graduate courses in conservation biology. Thisbook reviews the latest thinking and approaches, and in doing soprovides a readily accessible reference work for conservationprofessionals and managers. Because conservation biology is now one of the most dynamicdisciplines in the life sciences, William Sutherland and hisinternational team of authors have selected many of the liveliesttopics where key advances are currently being made. They stressideas, point to unresolved issues, and suggest possible futuredevelopments. Finally, since conservation is an applied subject, the book's emphasis throughout is on action. Essent...

Of the Geometrical Spirit

Of the Geometrical Spirit Blaise Pascal Blaise Pascal (19 June 1623 - 19 August 1662) was a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer and Catholic theologian. He was a child prodigy who was educated by his father, a tax collector in Rouen. Pascal's earliest work was in the natural and applied sciences where he made important contributions to the study of fluids, and clarified the concepts of pressure and vacuum by generalising the work of Evangelista Torricelli. Pascal also wrote in defence of the scientific method. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades,...

From the Foreword: 'This book is an excellent tool for practitioners who are interested in the merits and pitfalls of the technique.... (The author's) research is an example of inventiveness, diligence and accuracy' - Freerk A. Lootsma, Delft Institute of Technology Data envelopment Analysis is a Mathematical Programme for measuring performance efficiency of organizational units. The organizational units, termed as decision-making units (DMU) can be of any kind: manufacturing units, a set of schools, banks, hospitals, power plants, police stations, prisons, a set of firms etc. DEA has been unsuccessfully applied to measure the performance efficiency of these different kinds of DMUs which sha...
