The aim of this book is to provide an overview of the studies of the teeth and faces of Australian twins and their families that have extended over more than thirty years.
This book provides a comprehensive account of a unique pioneering longitudinal study of human growth that continues to contribute to our knowledge and raise new questions 60 years after it commenced. Although over 200 scientific publications have arisen from the study, this book describes, in a single volume, the key researchers involved, the Australian Aboriginal people from Yuendumu who participated in the study, and the main outcomes. This book is the first work to address the question of what kinds of words get borrowed in a systematic and comparative perspective. It studies lexical borrowing behavior on the basis of a world-wide sample of 40 languages, both major languages and minor languages, and both languages with heavy borrowing and languages with little lexical influence from other languages. This study, first published in 1985, analyses aspects of the syntax of K’ekchi, a Mayan language spoken in Guatemala.
