This book is about how people in power use language to generate and perpetuate misunderstandings.
The first of two volumes of Seymour Martin Lipsit's major papers deals with social and political conflict and, to a lesser extent, the way in which value systems and political institutions maintain order and consensus. The description for this book, The Conquest of Politics: Liberal Philosophy in Democratic Times, will be forthcoming.
